What a Stretch!

I have seen a vast improvement with the exercises the PT gave me, and they are basically yoga positions, with slight movement. I am going to get back into Pilates as well! I hate getting creaks, I am more vain about it than my looks.

lol... me too... creaks piss me off... :)

Amen, it would be a very reasonable way to lower healthcare costs!

agreed, something I have been saying for years. the simplest way to lower overall costs is for people to exercise more and try to eat healthier (which doesn't mean you have to be a nazi about what is eaten)

Good, you educated yourself, now, go try a yoga session for beginners!

I've watched them at the gym and see nothing of value that could not be gained in hundreds of other ways.....
but the fact that its organized and structured forces the people paying for the class to participate as a group that would otherwise probably be watching tv
and eating ice cream at home.
Certainly no hint of anything other than exercise at these classes....

I'll stick to yard work, walking and playing golf.....if I'm not too tired.

FWIW, yoga is real helpful with golf. Now I'm not suggesting you need to do yoga but the flexibility you get through yoga translates real well onto the golf course.

If you want to waste your time working out follow it with aclohol. Otherwise, try to keep it to your days off.

If you want to get fit, put down the bottle. Alcohol has a number of negative health consequences when consumed after a visit to the gym. You should plan your drinking during days when you are off from working out, especially if you are going to consume more than one drink for women or two drinks for men, the level that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says you can ingest daily without negative health consequences.

[h=2]Disrupted Muscle Repair[/h]After you work out, your muscles need time to repair themselves and grow. Alcohol disrupts this process, meaning if you want to get ripped, you probably should pass on the post-workout gin and tonics. The body uses human growth hormone during the muscle-repair process. The consumption of alcohol reduces the secretion of HGH, eliminating the gains that you made while pumping iron at the gym.

[h=2]Sustained Soreness[/h]Since your muscles aren’t able to properly repair themselves due to the effects of alcohol, you will experience more soreness for a longer time if you drink after your workout. The soreness you experience after working out is from microscopic muscle tears or built-up lactic acid, both of which take longer to resolve if booze is in your body.

[h=2]Increased Fatigue[/h]If you’ve had a strenuous workout, your body will feel fatigued. Knocking back a few post-gym will only make this worse. Alcohol disrupts the body’s metabolism, leaving you with less energy to burn. Also, alcohol can disrupt the sleep schedule – leaving you sore and tired the next day since your body didn’t have the proper amount of time to recover.

I'm under no impression that drinking after working out (or at anytime really) is good for me. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop drinking though. And if I just drank and didn't work out I would have a serious little budha and I have no desire to get one of those. So I will continue on the working out and drinking program.

Well, I was just pointing out that drinking too soon after working out is a bad idea. You should at the least, wait a few hours to recover.

Marijuana goes great with fitness, though.

I hear you and agree that one should wait after working out before drinking. However when playing on a team in a league and people go drinking after the game I'm not waiting for anything!
