What if everyone voted? The case for 100 percent democracy.

Universal voting takes seriously the Declaration of Independence’s insistence that government is legitimate only when it is based on the “consent of the governed.” The Founders did not say “some of the governed” (even 66.8 percent). Including everyone in our system of government would live up to the promise made at the birth of our republic. Universal voting would tear down barriers and elevate our civic obligations.

More than two dozen democratic countries have versions of compulsory participation. One of the most successful models is Australia’s. The United States adopted the secret ballot after Australia tried it first. We should do the same with universal voting.

Fuck that!!!

There is no fucking way I am voting for a candidate unless they are up to the job and ALL of their major, policy positions merge with mine.
And considering 99.9% of all politicians I have been able to vote for were useless pieces of human excrement (no matter their party affiliation), IMO?
That means I would be forced to vote for a candidate whom I think will do FAR more harm than good.

AND even if I am given the option of 'not voting for any candidate'?
How dare the assholes in government, FORCE me to do so.

Again...FUCK THAT!!!

Yes, we should have all qualified Americans registered and if they refuse to do their civic duty, they should be fined.

If you don't want to vote for any of the candidates, just put your name on it or use Barney Fife's name.

If there was 100% turnout, Conservatives would never win another election again.

The thing about radical, extremist centrism is that it's totally willing to blow up the entire system if it doesn't get the accommodation it thinks it's entitled to, but did nothing to earn.

fuck no.

not voting is a protest vote on the entire system.

stop being a totalitarian idiot.

This would be the worst nightmare for the GOP.

If everyone voted, the Democrats would be more left, and Republicans would be more centrist. They'd have to take their attention away from suppressing the vote, and modify their platform for a broader appeal.

Better said, What if everyone who was legally entitled to vote, voted?

and like most other countries in the world, they provided a photo ID, machine voting with paper ballot backup.

In my world I might add,
national holiday election weekend with polls open 48 hours, and every voter gets a finger dipped in indelible ink. The only exception being the military.
Have multiple homes or a whiney college student? Go vote at your primary residence or STFU.

The authors of our Constitution limited voting to only White Men over 21 who owned land.

They did not want women, minorities, or non-landowners to vote!

Apparently our beloved FOREFATHERS were a bunch of wig wearing white powder faced Sissies, Racists, Misogynists, and Supercilious Snobs! [Geeko Sportivo]

Take the Board of Education in San Francisco, where we just recalled three members. Every single person that runs for it is a Democrat and turnout is like maybe 20%, something extremely low. Is the argument that if everybody in San Francisco is forced to vote for the BOE that its going to be better? On one hand you might say it can't be any worse and you might have a point. But forcing people to vote when very few people in the City even know the name of a single candidate is going to improve our education system? And that's going to move the Board to the left?

You mean what if everyone was registered to vote?

Why do they need to do that if they've already registered to vote or have been registered to vote?

No one whines more than American Conservatives.
