what was the best time in American history?

What is bullshit? Do you really think the debt doesn't matter?

As for SS, there was an article on CNN just yesterday saying that the medical community is on the cusp of extending lifespans to 110, even 120, within the next decade or so.

What do you think that will do to SS?

Honestly, you are so ignorant on this subject you live in an effing dream world. Knock yourself out with it. Yeah you're living till 120 Onceler, and that is going to become the new normal within a decade. I guess now we know who is really smoking the good shit. I feel sorry for you. But don't ever project your abject stupidity and ignorance onto me. Maybe Dung should read you his posts.

I'm with Jarod; now is better for so many reasons, and the best is yet to come. As I said earlier

Desh, when someone earlier wrote the best part of America is it's future your response was "so you think America has never been good?"

Now when TC and Jarod say they think the best part of America is the future you give it a thumbs up?

I disagree, wholeheartedly. The ONLY fixes for SS in the future will be radical extensions of the retirement age, and cuts to bene's.

Even if they didn't need that, the payouts will eventually be way, way too low to compensate for any kind of living wage.

Impervious to all fact.

And do you think that will have an affect on inflation?

Do you even read? They are using inflation to lower the actual value of the debt. They are creating inflation. The question is what effect will the inflation have on anyone who isn't a billionaire?

You can disagree all you want, but you are wrong on this. The echo boomers out number the baby boomers. As they shift into prime earning years and the baby boomers begin dying off, the burden will ease. A donut hole will create enough revenue to take care of the baby boomers and once they begin to disappear, the extra revenue will fund the echo boomers.

IF medical technology can extend life expectancy to 110 or 120 as your article suggested, then the FRA will need to be adjusted up to reflect that as well.

4) Do you understand the difference between deficit and debt? When you raise deficit spending by 3 fold and keep it there for four years, you don't get to claim victory because you reduce it by 40%... you are still far above the worst levels under Bush.

I do.

Here is your hint:
Is the deficit increasing or decreasing? And did the CBO forecast the federal debt shrinking for the rest of Obama's term by any chance?

Those two questions should have clued you that I understand the difference.

BTW I can't help noticing you didn't answer them.

You're really nothing but insults these days. What a waste of a once-decent mind.

I know you think the lifespan thing is sci-fi, but it ain't. I don't personally care about living longer, but it's going to happen. Medical advances have always been exponential.

no they said the future would be good.

they didn't say that as a response to my question huh?

see you have to lie and twist to make even a shadow of a debate

it will have the same effect on everyone, billionaires will simply be able to weather the storm better.

she gave you facts you cant deal with so you cry and say "oh you being mean to me".

look dude accept facts and quit being the idiot who cries about being handed facts you cant refute

It will suck. Especially if it crashes the market as some are predicting.

What do you think that will do to SS?

There was an article in Popular Science in 1948 that said we would all be driving hydrogen powered cars and living in houses that rotated to take full advantage of sunlight by now.

Did you have an actual point, or would you just like to discuss this weeks best nutbag theory?

She didn't give me even one fact - except that I must be "smoking something," or whatever.

I don't think Darla knows a heck of a lot about economics. And I've seen her post here for years, so it's not just a guess.

I know the deficit is shrinking from its peak. But the DEBT is still increasing. The federal debt is not going to shrink. Not even close. I would be shocked if Obama was able to even get back to the average Bush deficit. His ineptitude will prevent him from lowering the national debt.

I'm not lying or twisting anything. The two answers were the same but you gave different responses based on who said it.

How about we pay back what we took from it.

a nice raise on the top 1% like in the 1940s would do it

Who took from it? Where did you think the money was going to come from for all of your "social justice" programs? Who put Social Security funds into the general fund? Was that a Democrat or Republican? You see, I really hate playing the Big Indian/Little Indian game, but apparently it is all your partisan mind can comprehend.

So far two of the things you have railed about were brought about by democrat party presidents i.e. LBJ and Clinton. Whose failed ideas are you talking about sweetie? Those are FACTS

Now, I love how you shifted a decade from 1950s to 1940s. You probably didn't think I would notice. But, lucky for you, I have the tax rates for the 1940s as well. Here you go

1940 $0-$4000 paid a marginal rate of 4%

1941 $0-$2000 paid a marginal rate of 10%

1942 and 1943 $0-$2000 paid a marginal rate of 19%

1944 and 1945 $0-$2000 paid a marginal rate of 23%

1946-1949 $0-$2000 paid a marginal rate of 20%

So pick a year puddin. Which one gets your fancy? You seem to have it stuck in your hyper partisan head that it was only the top 1% that paid the highest tax rate.Want to know what the top marginal rate was in 1940? It was 91% on income over $200,000. Want to know what $200,000 equated to in todays dollars? It would be $3.3 million dollars. Not the $250,000 you keep chiming about.

How does it feel to go through life so uninformed. Don't worry, I expect you to run from this thread like you do every other you get slammed on.

Want to pick another decade?

Bullshit. We are 30 years away from spending what has already been collected. This is all an attempt by truly diseased minds to raise the retirement age on manual laborers to 70.
Can you imagine carrying hods of bricks up ladders until you are seventy? I didn't think so. Nor can any fat assed Senator who never lifted anything heavier than a shot glass or a silicon boob in their lives.

Why are you falling for this bullshit Oncelor? Why have you bought into this pack of lies?
By the way, if you are worried about devaluation, spend all your cash.

See this is the thing right here. Maybe when these doctors make us all live to 120 in 10 years (LOL. Someone has a death phobia, and I'm sorry to hear it, but you're not living to 120 dude, learn to deal), they are also going to do something to our bodies to make manual labor really easy at 80. Like, we will all be running around saying, 80 is the new 30!

But of course that is not going to happen. This is such an elitist bs argument, and I blame the entire DC press corps all of whom went right along with this from their perfectly temperature controlled offices sitting on their asses.

Yeah - and if someone told you in the '80's about the technology we'd have today, you would have cracked up, as well.

Life expectancy increases are standard in history. Have you paid any attention at all to what's happening in the field of medicine these days?
