what was the best time in American history?

Well, you're right, of course. The thing is, Desh's level of discourse is so very high - the relentless onslaught of hard, proven factual information, the scintillating insight into causality, the immediate, relevant responses to any inquiry...it's all a bit much. What are we left with but bumping into each other and hitting each other over the head with pots & pans?

Do you think the curriculum in NY schools were better in the 50's (and I'd say probably 60's as well) or not? Have you noticed that older people with high school educations seem to have better grammar, are better read, and some even were taught Latin? Or not? It's an interesting idea. Or is all you do here now comedic relief via dripping sarcasm?

The latter. And don't worry your poor l'il head about the irony of that part.

so you didn't say the schools in the 50's were better?

The schools were better when public education was controlled by the states along with private education. The federal government has no business and no place in education.

Except in the south where the states had no money for education and schools fell apart because of federal governmental policies and not on account of them.

This is how and why the south was isolated from the rest of the country for a hundred years and still suffers dependency today.

President Carter was clearly your best ruler since George 111. What a pity your madmen got him to play cowboys like all the rest of the posturing clowns.

Carter created the Department of Education as a payback to teacher's unions for their support of his presidential successful run.

He was one of, if not THE worst presidents in U.S. history.

Carter's idealism is admirable, but unfortunately he was incompetent and naïve (particularly about the attitudes of Congressional Dems who disliked him). Much like Bush II, who was all about non-intervention and domestic reform, healing the dot com bust, reforming the tax code, etc. Once 9/11 happened, his total incompetence flared up, and his ignorance became a huge liability.

The fact that you think so is probably proof positive that he was the best, just as Paul Robeson was the greatest American ever. Your view? :)

What benefit did teachers' unions get by breaking the Department of Education out from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare?

'87 is somewhat early for me. I'm a bit younger than you but had an older brother so I was listening to Straight Outta Compton, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Eazy-Duz-It, It Takes a Nation of Millions, Paul's Boutique and other shit that I had no business listening to at my age. But my favorite period isn't too far off from yours. Probably the '90 - '95 era. If you cut it off at 1991 you miss some cool shit (though it includes The Chronic, you miss Biggie, 2Pac, Wu Tang and lots and lots of other stuff) and while I listened to earlier rap, most of my exposure was in this period.

I was listening to hip hop classics this morning and they played a bunch of songs from 1995. Probably my least favorite year of rap ever. Not sure what it is about that year but I thought it was awful. But yeah 2Pac and Biggie were awesome.

Did you ever listen to Souls of Mischief? I went to high school with Tajai Massey from the group. Guy had an academic scholarship to Stanford. He actually turned it down at first to do the rap thing but eventually did go.

LOL You're not smarter than me. You're just more arrogant.

And whose posts aren't arrogant on this board? Yours? The Mercedes guy? Crazy desh?

I might be smarter, btw. I'm not 100% on that, since you can only deduce so much from the written word - but I'm starting to think I am.
