The issue is expected to be taken to the UN General Assembly under Resolution 377A, known as the "Uniting for Peace" resolution, Turkish sources said.
The 1950 Resolution 377A says if the Security Council fails to exercise its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, the General Assembly shall consider the matter immediately.

"The resolution can be passed by getting at least two-thirds of the votes of the members of the UN General Assembly. We already have this number, but Turkey, as well as the other OIC members, are working hard to increase it," the foreign ministry sources said.

This might actually succeed in getting the PA and Hamas to stop killing each other and hold some elections. They had their best chance of peace ever in 2008 but Abbas just walked away. Why should the Israelis negotiate with a rabble, who can't even agree amongst themselves who is their leader?

It is indeed good news that the Saudis are pressurising Abbas to pull his finger out and get on with negotiating a settlement.

A number of news reports, including by The New York Times and Reuters, have claimed the Saudi Crown Prince pressured Abbas in their last meeting early in November to accept a US peace proposal that closelymirrors Israeli demands to resolve the conflict and differs widely from what the Palestinians say they would be willing to accept.
