BATESVILLE, Ark. — Doctors tell a Batesville man he’s beat COVID-19, but he says his fight is far from over.

"My biggest regret is that I did not wear a mask,” said John Kunkel, a Batesville man and COVID-19 victim.

On June 30, his fight began with high fever, coughs, dry mouth, chills, and trouble breathing.

He's since put the virus behind him, but now he's faced with the aftermath.

"It’s now the side effects from COVID-19, which are quite brutal,” said Kunkel.

Since July 12, Kunkel has been in and out of the hospital and diagnosed with double pneumonia, and now his symptoms have far worsened.

Just Thursday, he was rushed back to the hospital with a 40% oxygen level.

"Now, I've got blood clots in my right lung and possibly in my legs that they are treating,” said Kunkel. “My chest hurts. It’s hard to breathe.”

Sara Montoya shared the warning from her hospital bed, where she was on oxygen and struggling to breathe after contracting COVID-19: “Put your masks on. Don’t go out if you don’t have to.” She shared the video on her Facebook page on July 5, just over a month before she died from the virus.

The mom of three, from El Paso, Texas, hadn’t gone out much — she was a homemaker, and had only left the house for “essentials, such as groceries, cleaning, supplies, etc.” — but she, her husband and her father-in-law all contracted COVID-19 at the end of June.

A Florida family is mourning the loss of 12-year-old Elizabeth McNew, who died from COVID-19 after being hospitalized for 10 days. Her mother, Elda, is begging people to take the virus seriously and wear masks when going out to protect other people from contracting the virus.

Elizabeth’s symptoms grew worse, as did the infection. She died on Sept. 25 from complications of the virus.

My grandfather died from stage 4 cancer, they put covid on the death certificate, one of my best friends died in an auto accident, again covid on the death certificate. I saw it, it is not misinformation. A admin from our local hospital said more state money was available for covid deaths so I am sure that had some to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised if Insurance companies were not asking for extra help as they don't pay for pandemic deaths, and providing a link with a made up trump picture does not help your side

You have to understand that the Covid death tally is one of the left’s political bludgeons.

Only with great reluctance will they allow that counting Covid deaths was essentially incentivized by government policy. I don’t doubt your story one bit because I’ve read too many similar stories. And I think we all know that *any time* government incentivizes gaming the system, the system will be gamed, as sure as the Sun will rise tomorrow.
