That is not the Republican party of today. They are the opposite of that now. You cannot keep going back to Lincolns time to explain the Trumpian Party. The parties reversed in the ensuing years and the Repubs are the party against freedoms. They see subservience to the wealthy as proper for the people. Let the wealthy run it all. They will dribble down some of their wealth someday sometime.

Healthcare. Dems see it as a right. Repubs see it as a way to loot the sick. Right to vote, Dems for it, Reds want voter suppression and gerrymandering.Free trade, Trump wants tariffs. freedom of the press. Trump wants to control them, banning ones that write stories he does not approve.
