Where I stand... because this has apparently been confusing to people...

I agree wholeheartedly. But you are missing the point. The other side doesn't want that. They want to erode our traditions and the meaning of family to fit their narrow family eroding agenda.

This is an agenda to pretend that liking the other sex is normal; that one can choose their gender regardless of biology. This is not about wanting equality, it is about tearing down the very fabric that keeps us civilized.

I simply asked an opinion on the topic, not for you to psychoanalyze 'the other side'.

When you were there did they have the Navy at the bottom of the hill or were you up on Russian Hill?

And...You did see the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

I did see the Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Navy was one side of the barracks at the bottom of the hill with the Marines on the other side of the Barracks. I had a ton of Marine friends. The newer barracks were pretty much all Army and Air Force barracks up the hill.

When I was there the Marines had their own barracks and the Navy was way down at the bottom of the hill. Good to hear they were still showing Rocky Horror. I used to love going to El Toritos on Cannery Row on the weekends.

Wait, I'm assuming I was there before you. I was there in '89-'90.

I think nowadays it really is a moot point since the SCOTUS made this decision. However, this solution is something I used to talk about... however it still includes a 1:1 ratio structure for the government to "bless" and give bonus benefits to and I simply disagree with this government blessing B.S. The government isn't the source of blessings, and who I choose to make a family with is none of their business unless I victimize somebody in order to "make" them participate. Simplifying laws to protect victims would be a good thing, continuing to make marriage laws more complex by adding new lists of "blessed" unions is just more government where it doesn't belong.

Damocles: "I think nowadays it really is a moot point since the SCOTUS made this decision."
Jack: This is just another burr underneath the saddle of Red Team. This (and other things) creates the Kavanaugh Event. Some things are solvable.

We may have been contemporaries, I was there July 89- through 90 (I got the extra 6 months training... I was good at it) and the Marine Barracks were on the other side of the assembly area in the Barracks where we lived. These barracks were attached by an unused chow hall at the back of the assembly area. There was another newer barracks the Navy had across the parking lot but those were usually for the permanently assigned administrative folks and some higher ranking students. I could look out my window at the barracks on the other side of the assembly area, where the Marines were housed. I actually went back and visited and it was pretty much the same after Y2K.

His political leaning weren't in doubt. Evince thinks he's Grind, that's the problem.

"It has come to my attention that even people who have known me since p.com days still don't understand that I affiliate with the republican party. Not just affiliate, I am an activist".

STFU!

We were there at the same time. I was August 1989 - July 1990.

Army, A Co. , Korean.

Lick my balls thoroughly and completely and then start working on the bunghole.

You must be talking about the real old barracks then. We had class in some of those real old barrack buildings at the bottom of the hill.

It was awesome. I had no idea what was going on at first. The ground doesn't move like that here.

I was so pissed off. i was in line in the mess hall...next in line, and I wanted to eat and then go back up to my room and watch the WS game and then they told us to get out and wait...and then I was last in line and there was no game to watch. Mother Nature sucks.

'Marriage' has broadly been defined as 'Sex for Support'. For the last 10,000 years 'marriage' has been between 'men and women'. So most people have a pretty good idea of what marriage is, like creating a family of biological offspring. Now, two guys that want to butt fuck each other for the next 20 years is considered 'marriage'. So, I have a question.

In order to please the 'traditionalists' and the 'religious' over the 'gay marriage' issue, and to please the 'LGBT Community' over the 'Marriage Equality' issue, ... why not simply swap out the 'word' marriage and replace that 'word' with Civil Union? All the benefits, the Rights, the Privileges that are associated with 'Marriage' would be applied to Civil Unions. The Government could define 'Civil Union' any way it wanted, there is no historical context to the word, there's no established understanding of the word like there is for the 'word' Marriage.

The 'Red Team/Blue Team' Partisanshitheads should both be happy with this. The 'LGBT Community' will have their Marriage Equality (and can call their union anything they want) and the 'Traditionalists/Religious' can reclaim the 'word' Marriage as 'between a Man and a Woman'. The Government has removed itself from the issue and now only recognizes Civil Union Certificates (NOT Marriage Certificates) as the legal way to acquire all the benefits.

Damocles: "I hereby designate this as the "ask Damocles" thread ..."

:) OK. That's Jack's question.

Marrige has always been a financial and political transaction. Poor people did not get married. Wealthy merged their powers. Brides were traded to create allies. Our idea of marriage is a recent iteration.
Gay marriage is about people acting as they were born. If you believe in god, he makes some people gay. They are asking the right to be as they were created without losing rights and being discriminated against. That is a fair request.
Women were the spoils of marrige in the past. They had no power. there are plenty of societies that still decide marriages for their children and often they are bought and sold.
