Why believe something with no possible evidence? You can't prove anything, with the possible exception of mathmatical truths.
You have to base knowledge on logic and reason when empiricism is insufficient.

I agree with that. Better to fly the coop than live in a gilded cage. The belief is that God could take our free will away and force us to live perfect and ideal lives. But most people would say being free is better than being a robot dangling from puppet strings
I'm not terrified of atheists. One of them happens to be a good friend here. There is for people who are terrified of atheists. Atheists scare some folks because it calls into question their "faith". How could someone NOT believe as they do in magical creatures and invisible sky beings? It is obvious to them that these magical beings exist and if they find someone who DOESN'T believe in the magical beings they are disturbed. How can that be?
Don't forget the gray unicorn, the mathematical laws of gambling, the fallacies of logic, the concept of zero, and the square root of 5.I don't have any problem understanding there is an immaterial reality: the mathmatical laws of physics, geometric axioms, the laws of logic, true love, the concept of infinity, imaginary numbers, the square root of 2.
Obviously, my souped-up chimpanzee brain is not capable of seeing the whole picture when it comes to an immaterial and transcendent reality
YARPYou can't prove anything, with the possible exception of mathmatical truths.
You can't prove this discussion isn't just your delusion.

Good job working that Eagles tune into the concept of free will!I agree with that. Better to fly the coop than live in a gilded cage.
Then there's the "fucking Eagles"*
We are all just prisoners here, of our own device".
The bottom line is that we do have free will even if not everyone can exercise it to the same degree. It's also a matter of attitude, which is also an expression of free will. There are those that blame others for all of their problems like the MAGAt cracker retards are fond of doing and then there's mature minds who take responsibility for themselves as most non-MAGAt Americans often do.

Thanks! You know I'm a big fan of free will...and the Eagles. I've seen them in concert a few times in my college days.Good job working that Eagles tune into the concept of free will!
Of course I can.You can't prove this discussion isn't just your delusion.
Good, you admit belief is just a wish. You can't prove anything, with the possible exception of mathmatical truths.
You clearly need to do some reading about the distinction between blind faith and justified faith.Good, you admit belief is just a wish.
Agreed. Like some people are color-blind, it appears about <10% percentage of humans lack a spiritual nature. My observation is that most of these people are simply young and immature. Often under 35. It's those who are over 35 and lack this human quality that pique my interest. In Hume's case, she's a young, angry woman who is simply lashing out.You clearly need to do some reading about the distinction between blind faith and justified faith.
You have faith the pharmacist didn't accidentally give you the wrong meds.

I wear a "Faith over Fear" silicon wrist bracelet. It comes from Psalm 118:6, but as your analogy points out, faith is more than simply believing in a "sky daddy" or the FSM. It's faith in family, friends, coworkers, local and greater governments. For many people, it's faith in their equipment including those who designed, built and maintain it. People without faith are people who live in perpetual fear...which makes them angry. Hume is an example.

Psalm 118:6
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
IMO, it's like the color-blind analogy. They have a gene(s) blinding them to faith and spirituality, even if mostly a secular faith. Lacking faith, they live in fear and that often makes them angry.Good point.
I don't know why atheists tried to turn faith into a bad word. I have faith in my wife, in my friends, I have faith the pharmacist is not going to put poison in my Rx.
The key is to have justified faith, not blind faith.
Most of what we do in life is based on justified faith. Nobody on this board is doing chemical analysis on the prescription the pharmacist gives them to confirm its the correct medication.IMO, it's like the color-blind analogy. They have a gene(s) blinding them to faith and spirituality, even if mostly a secular faith. Lacking faith, they live in fear and that often makes them angry.
Agreed on justified faith. A pharmacy with a good reputation is easier to have faith in than one that has a poor reputation. Same for police forces, schools, companies people work for or do business with, etc.
Sort of like the Avatar not being canine if she didn't have such an enormous sense of entitlement.Without adversity, suffering, misfortune we would never cultivate a sense of mercy, charity, empathy, resilience, strength, self-sacrifice. We wouldn't be fully human if we didn't have those virtues.
She's protecting it for you.Sort of like the Avatar not being canine if she didn't have such an enormous sense of entitlement.
I got out of the bathroom and discovered that I wasn't going back to bed.
She's sprawled across my pillow right now.
What a fucking load of horseshit. There is NOTHING in the drivel that explains why people shouldnt kill someone and it certainly doesn't address the fact that you have no fucking justification to stop someone from killing someone else. If someone decides to abandon your pussy ass social animal bullshit what could you do about it? Nothing. That what
Why not just have no suffering? Why is god impotent, then?
When will people prove god created the universe? Over 2000 years and counting.
By the same token, where is the logic of an omnipotent deity creating a need for a training ground?
It obviously makes sense to some...but not to me.
