Who here has already been vaccinated? Who is not planning on getting vaccinated?

Should be known that the reason for most seemingly "crazy" laws like these are because someone at some point acted irresponsibly which prompted legislators to create these laws.

Or it was because of religion and racism...that's probably the reason for most of them.

Some are because someone acted irresponsibly. Others are religiously based. Some are because good intentions by government is a the road paved to hell.

Laws to require racism in the name of eliminating racism.

Such as?

Laws to forbid the sale of cabbage on Sunday (New Jersey).

Probably because at some point in NJ's history, some asshole sold cabbage on a Sunday and it created a problem. I'm not saying religion is probably the reason, but....religion is probably the reason for any laws against doing anything on a Sunday.

Laws to forbid the rollerskates in public restrooms (Oregon).

Probably because at some point, someone went into a restroom in roller skates and had an accident, or did something that resulted in someone dying or getting seriously injured.

Laws that forbid owning a whale (Kansas City, KS?).

Probably because some asshole thought it would be neat to get a whale as a pet, and they put that whale in their pool where the whale undoubtedly died.

Laws that forbid a type of gun that doesn't exist (the SOTC).

Well, this feels like a half-truth here...and was probably a gun that NO LONGER EXISTS, but did at the time the law was written.

And again, the law was written because some jackass acted irresponsibly.

Laws that forbid the sale of a mattress on Sunday (WA).

THIS feels like Christianity to me.

Laws that forbid shooting a buffalo from the 2nd story of a hotel

Because someone shot a buffalo from a hotel, and probably missed and killed an innocent person...or killed the buffalo, which is also innocent.

Laws that forbid serving margarine in restaurants unless the customer requests it (WI).

Probably because someone had a bad allergic reaction to it, causing that person death or great injury.

The reason we have stupid laws is because we have stupid people.

Laws that make it illegal to cause a catastrophe

Wait - you're saying that you should be allowed to cause catastrophes?

Laws that make selling a toilet that uses more than 1 gallon per flush is illegal, but importing them is not

This sounds like a half-truth.

Laws that make it legal for an aircraft owner to change the tires on his own airplane, but not the spark plugs

Well probably because you can change a tire with no problem, but changing sparkplugs in an airplane would seem to require a higher level of skill.

So it would appear this law was written because some jackass took it upon themselves to replace the sparkplugs in a plane, and the plane ended up crashing or exploding because of that.

You don't get stupid laws without stupid people.

Laws that require over 75 different formulations for gasoline (more than there are States!) in the summer, but not in the winter, where it's just four (Federal regulations).

Probably because the cold weather has effects on certain "formulations" of gasoline.

You know...we just saw that shit play out two weeks ago in Texas, where all the fossil fuel energy was frozen in transit and process by the cold.

The first rule of government: It doesn't have to make sense.

No, that's the first rule of Conservatism...followed by Rule #2 which is "Always be racist".

Why is selling cabbage on a Sunday a problem?
Probably because at some point, someone went into a restroom in roller skates and had an accident, or did something that resulted in someone dying or getting seriously injured.
No known case.
Probably because some asshole thought it would be neat to get a whale as a pet, and they put that whale in their pool where the whale undoubtedly died.
Not far off. A whale was part of an aquarium and it died, and the guy skipped town and left it to rot.
Well, this feels like a half-truth here...and was probably a gun that NO LONGER EXISTS, but did at the time the law was written.
The gun never existed.
And again, the law was written because some jackass acted irresponsibly.
How can one be irresponsible about a gun that does not exist???
THIS feels like Christianity to me.
So?
Because someone shot a buffalo from a hotel, and probably missed and killed an innocent person...or killed the buffalo, which is also innocent.
Nope. It was because shooting buffalo from 2nd story hotel window was considered 'unsportsmanlike'. Shooting buffalo from any other window is okay.
Probably because someone had a bad allergic reaction to it, causing that person death or great injury.
Eating margerin causes death and great injury???? Apparently you have no idea how proud Wisconsin is of their dairy industry.
The reason we have stupid laws is because we have stupid people.
True. Stupid people in government.
Wait - you're saying that you should be allowed to cause catastrophes?
Why would you need a law against it? Are you seriously suggesting that it's a problem in Utah that people are intentionally causing catastrophes???
This sounds like a half-truth.
Nope. The whole truth. You can't sell a toilet that uses more than 1 gallon per flush, but you can import them. You can even install either one in your home and it meets building codes.
Well probably because you can change a tire with no problem, but changing sparkplugs in an airplane would seem to require a higher level of skill.
Nope. It's actually easier to change the spark plugs. Obviously, your mechanical aptitude is nil.
So it would appear this law was written because some jackass took it upon themselves to replace the sparkplugs in a plane, and the plane ended up crashing or exploding because of that.
You can't cause an explosion that way. Planes have crash both due to defective tires, improperly mounted tires, and faulty ignition systems. They have never crashed due to a spark plug being replaced. Obviously you have no idea how ignition systems work in aircraft either.
You don't get stupid laws without stupid people.
True. Stupid people in government write these laws.
Probably because the cold weather has effects on certain "formulations" of gasoline.
None.
You know...we just saw that shit play out two weeks ago in Texas, where all the fossil fuel energy was frozen in transit and process by the cold.
Fossils aren't used as fuel. Fossils don't burn. People utilizing natural gas, propane, oil, or even coal for heating weathered the Texas cold quite well. The problem was electricity, as much of the high tension primary distribution system was damaged by ice, and the loss of wind generators added to the shortage. Power plants using coal, natural gas, and oil ran fine.
No, that's the first rule of Conservatism...followed by Rule #2 which is "Always be racist".
You are describing Democrats.

Why is selling cabbage on a Sunday a problem?

I don't know...it's probably a religious thing. Any laws against anything on a Sunday are probably rooted in Christianity in some weird way.

The point is that someone did this on a Sunday and it was enough of a problem for others that they wrote a law against it. Maybe it was that some guy was selling cabbage while everyone was supposed to be in church, and the pastor/minister/priest didn't like that their flock was distracted by a cabbage salesman.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The birdbrain Macaw Milquetoast has decided to forgo the covid vaccine, I see.
Shit. Now I'm going to really worry about him.

No known case.

Well, no, you don't know that. Maybe find out when the law was written and passed, and look into news around that time. I suspect it was probably around the 1950's/60's, so you should be able to find the inciting incident if you look hard enough.

Not far off. A whale was part of an aquarium and it died, and the guy skipped town and left it to rot.

OK, so then this is an example of a good law that protects wildlife, not a dumb law that you're trying to frame as reflective of the institution of government that you fundamentally oppose.

The gun never existed.

And will never exist now, thanks to this law.

Now, why do I get the impression that you're not being 100% truthful about the law?

How about you post the actual law so we can look at it together and determine whether it's a dumb law, or it's a law that was written because of dumb people.

How can one be irresponsible about a gun that does not exist???

I don't know...more context is needed because you didn't post the actual law, didn't link to it, and only ambiguously and vaguely referenced it.

So we can't have an honest discussion about it until you act honestly.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So...religion was the reason for that law. Do you think government should legislate using religion as the basis?

Nope. It was because shooting buffalo from 2nd story hotel window was considered 'unsportsmanlike'. Shooting buffalo from any other window is okay.

Again, I need more context here because I am not taking your word for it.

Eating margerin causes death and great injury???? Apparently you have no idea how proud Wisconsin is of their dairy industry.

Margarine isn't a dairy product you fucking idiot.

Why would you need a law against it? Are you seriously suggesting that it's a problem in Utah that people are intentionally causing catastrophes???

Well, you aren't providing context for anything here...you're not even linking to the actual laws.

Instead, we get your tortured and distorted interpretation that probably isn't even genuine; you likely just swiped these ambiguous things from someone else's post.

So that way, you can try to control the flow and discussion...but the problem with that is that the moment someone holds any of it to scrutiny, suddenly everything you post becomes questionable in its honesty because you took pains to avoid providing context.

So from whom did you steal that original rant? Because you and I both know you didn't actually read any of these laws you're holding up as examples of why the government is bad.

Nope. The whole truth. You can't sell a toilet that uses more than 1 gallon per flush, but you can import them. You can even install either one in your home and it meets building codes.

I know it's not the whole truth because you didn't link to the law or regulation itself.

Instead, you ambiguously referred to it, expecting me to do your work for you.

Nah bruh, it stands as a lie until you can cite the law and context.
