Thank you, Grind... I actually worked around this by instead fucking Richard Simmons in the ass. In my defense, I was totally wasted, and my date told me that "she" seemed like an acceptable way to kill off some stress!!

Well I did vote for Rush but like I said, I think all the bands I listed are deserving.

Alice Cooper was the biggest band of most of the 70's and Vincent Fournier is very much under estimated as a song writer. There are bands/musicians in the RnR HOF that don't have nearly the body of work, the number of hits nor that theatrical influence that Cooper had. Fuck you could bounce a dime off his stage show, it's that tight.

I also think Mark Bolan of T. Rex was one of the all time great frontmen and I'm glad to see bands like Placebo giving T. Rex the props they deserve.

Then again, what sort of short sighted idiots do they have to be up in NY City to keep the Wilson sisters out of the RnR HOF? Not only are they a great band but Nancy Wilson has one of the best set of pipes to ever grace a rock stage and let's not forget their influence on rock as the Grandmothers of grunge!

Outstanding analysis. Actually, I think you meant her sister Ann Wilson. Man, she is like a reincarnation of Janis Joplin. Her pipes blow me away, arguably the best rock singer ever, by far.

The Cure is a sentimental favorite of mine, but I'd have to give Rush a nod just on the sheer volume of their contribution.

And I always give up props to Alex Lifeson being one of the most under rated guitar players ever to crank it up to eleven. As a poseur garage band musician, I always gave him the hat tip for being a master of the fret board. Whenever some dude tries to blab to me about Jimmy Page or Carlos Sanata, I always show them this youtube clip. Cheers, Mr. Lifeson. Lifeson's phrasing is outstanding and inventive, and he has a clean, virtuostic style that Jimmy Page could only dream of having.

All that said, I am sad and disappointed that you didn't have ABBA as a choice. :(

The HOF is a joke; there is no better proof than many of the bands on that list. The "committee" is a clique of like-minded music snobs who think the music they like is the only valid music out there.

Screw the HOF.

Rock began in blues and country. Folk sidestepped that. Some folk artists incorporated rock ideas (like Dylan), but I don't think you could consider Cohen one of those people. If you consider Cohen a rocker, you basically consider everyone besides classical music people and maybe jazz as a rocker. Which makes the entire genre meaningless.

Rock and Roll began with blues, country, gospel, and Appalachian folk music. Folk didn't sidestep anything, it just remained a more pure form of the Appalachian roots from which it came. There is also a distinction between "Rock and Roll" and "Rock" music, although many people consider them the same thing. Through the years, the genre has evolved and spawned many varieties, but the foundation of the music remains the same.

Cohen, I believe, deserves his place in the HoF, for his influence and songwriting. He's not what you typically think of as a 'rocker' but then, neither is Bob Dylan. Before there was Rock-n-Roll, the people's favored music was Big Band, or what they called "Popular" music. Cohen is instrumental in fusing the sounds of the old with the new. Cohen is a much greater songwriter, but I would put him in the category of a Herbie Hancock. Not someone you typically associate with rock and roll, but very influential and inspirational to the genre.

Which probably explains why Chicago and Moody Blues aren't in the RNRHOF.

They brought a distinctive style to rock and roll music, and yes... it WAS rock and roll music. 25 or 6 to 4 ...one of the best classic rock songs of the time!

Wow Dixie, that totally rocked!

I'll bet you think the Bay City Rollers were total rockers too.

Maybe musical taste is different in the South, but I never hear Chicago on the classic rock stations here. I don’t think I’ve heard that tune you posted in like 15 years. Classic rock, in the non-retarded sense of the word is Zep, Floyd, Stones, Neil Young, Tom Petty, AC/DC with some 80s and 90s rock tossed in for good measure. My distinct impression is that if Chicago is played at all, it’s on those easy-listening oldies stations. The ones no one under the age of seventy five ever listens too.

question: Why did a lot of those seventies “rockers” like Chicago and Styx sing like they took mass injections of estrogen? What’s up with all the falsetto harmonies and soprano vocals? I think Joan Jett or Chrissie Hynde could teach those fancy boys how to sing an actual rock tune.

Okay.... let's get into some philosophy on this... How often do you hear Bill Haley and The Comets on your "classic rock" stations? I would imagine it is rare to hear them outside of some 'oldies' program, but they were indeed influential to rock and roll music. Hell, the KING of rock and roll is Elvis Presley, and you NEVER hear Elvis on classic rock stations! While adult contemporary classic rock music is great and wonderful, it's not ALL of Rock and Roll Music, not by a LONG shot!

It's just kind of stupid to try and compare the styles of different generations and eras, it has absolutely nothing to do with how great or profoundly significant the music is, just a cultural difference, a technological difference, and a presentation difference. Look at movies... Is Casablanca not a great movie because it lacks color? You should try to broaden your perspectives a bit, and learn to appreciate the variety found in Rock and Roll.
