Who's Goinna Build Your Wall?

Hello katzgar,

"Are you OK with the higher taxes needed to use American workers?"

It's not humor. It's math. Unless Trump fulfills his promise to get Mexico to pay for the wall then US taxpayers would pay for it. The price could be lower if low wage undocumented workers are utilized. If we use American workers the cost will be higher. So I was wondering if you were willing to pay higher taxes to make that happen.

Hello RB 60,

Thanks for commenting on this.

If you are suggesting this is part of an economic stimulus I would casually remind you that the economy requires no such stimulus now.

A stimulus is what you do during a recession.

When economic times are good, that is the time to be taxing the rich more and paying down the debt.

I didn't suggest it was a stimulus.
But wouldn't it be on the agenda to comply with the wishes of anti I.C.E. protesters

and award citizenship to the illegal activists who are breaking the law by being here and wish us not to enforce our laws?

Wouldn't building a wall, then abolishing I.C.E. and to quit enforcing our laws save money and help pay down the debt, "kill two birds with one stone," as they say?

Less than half of illegal immigrants come across the border. We would still need ICE to catch the other half.

We could just use the people in the detention centers to work on the wall free. They could work off their sentences :)

Our slaving has already been brought back in our corporate for profit prisons, why not, let the kids out of the cages to get some exercise.

Private prisons house less than 6% of the nation's prisoners. The greedy government prisons want all that money for themselves.

No, because the Republican tax cut give-away to the rich has already reduced revenue more than the savings would raise it.

We should legalize all drugs, and treat drug abuse as a disease.

Tax drug sales and use the proceeds to build and run rehab centers and programs.

btw, ending the drug war would take away the profits of the gangs which are driving so many immigrants away from their homes to seek refuge in the USA.

Legal drugs = no drug war = no profits for gangs = less violence in their home countries = fewer undocumented immigrants in the USA = a reduced need to spend on walls or ICE = reduced debt.

Now I do recall back in my memory that there was a time when Republicans were actually concerned about the debt. Or was that a false concern used only as a way to criticize Democrats at the time?

The opposition party is concerned about the debt. The party in power wants to spend money.

The benefits of legalizing drugs might outweigh the current situation, but I think you are too optimistic about it ending all the drug problems. If you tax it that increases the price which creates a market for cheaper illegal drugs. Another possibility is that if Mexico and Central America lose the drug money that might increase the number coming in the U. S. for jobs. Anytime you make something legal there will be increased usage.

The "evil" private prisons some decry will just be replaced by evil "corporate" rehab and drug counseling centers.

I remember when Copenhagen opened Needle Park where people could go to buy and use drugs and get free clean needles. They eventually closed it because those bringing the money to the park to buy drugs were being robbed by people waiting outside.

Just some random thoughts. I have no strong feelings about his issue because of so many unpredictable factors.

Hello RB 60,

Then you disagree with the protesters?

I think the whole 'abolish ICE' thing is silly. That function has to be performed by some agency of the government. They are doing what they are told to do. It's our leader I disagree with.

It is a symbolic protest against Trump. But if it manages to galvanize strong support then it could have a beneficial effect of drawing more concerned people into the discussion, and that's always a good thing. Republicans have spun way too much political goldmining out of this immigrant thing. Immigration is not new. And neither is resentment of immigration. What's new is how Trump has managed to do two-step from being a caustic TV reality personality to somebody that people actually trust to run our government, and that he has done so by championing hatred. How diabolical.

Symbolic? Silly. Our president wishes to enforce our laws, do you disagree?
As for resentment, no one opposes legal immigration.
And the hatred? I have never seen the hatred expressed for a sitting president
like the hatred expressed for this president, those who voted for him and those
who work for him in my lifetime like I see today. Every president before him has
had those who disagree with him, haven't they?
How has he "championed hatred," other than bring out the hatred of those who
disagree, or just simply dislike him?
How diabolical!

Hello RB 60,

The laws were already being enforced. Breaking up families is actually against the law, which is why courts ordered an end to it.

As for resentment, no one opposes legal immigration.

I disagree. I believe there are people who oppose any immigration at all.

And the hatred? I have never seen the hatred expressed for a sitting president
like the hatred expressed for this president, those who voted for him and those

It is true there is hatred on both sides; and that is deplorable. Trump has always been an outcast because he has no morals. He has become the champion of deplorable people. He loves the under-educated. They are easier to take advantage of.

How has he "championed hatred," other than bring out the hatred of those who disagree, or just simply dislike with him?

I am amazed you have to ask this. He said there were good people on both sides of a white supremacy protest. He claimed an Hispanic judge would be prejudiced against him. He called immigrants rapists and criminals when the reality is they get into less trouble than Americans. He calls the mainstream media the 'Enemy of the people.' Reporters have gotten death threats. He has publicly insulted many popular figures with no cause. He has alienated Muslims in America by repeatedly trying to institute a Muslim Ban, and then actually succeeding. Now, how would you feel if your relatives were suddenly prevented from visiting you by a hijacked federal government over xenophobia?

And you wonder how he championed hatred. Man, that's just the tip of the iceberg. This president is as cold as they come.

It is no wonder he has so much opposition.

He brought it all on himself.

He is the guy who -lives- by negative publicity.

Here we go again with "the uneducated" bullshit. Since
it seems you believe only one party can be educated.
I have no interest in addressing the lies you spew above.
This conversation is over.

Hello katzgar,

Look up the meaning of the word humor

There was nothing humorous about your comment. I found it flippant.

I asked a question in earnest, which you have dodged.

You want a wall.

It has to be paid for.

Some of that cost is labor.

American labor costs more than immigrant labor.

It is a fair question to ask if you would prefer to pay higher taxes to pay for it.

It is fairly obvious (and perhaps a sore point) that President Trump is not going to fulfill his promise to get Mexico to pay for the wall.

If you think a flippant demand is an answer to a real question you are mistaken.

If you don't want to answer my question all you have to do is say so.

I mean if you are uncomfortable with the question I can understand.

It would be a troubling question for a Trump supporter.

It must be painful to have to bury so much hurt.

President Trump has lied to you.

He has lied to all of us.

It's hard to believe in a liar.

I am not the subject here.

You will refrain from casting dispersion upon me or I shall refrain from reading, nor responding to anything you ever write.

Look. I have zero problem with talking politics with anybody who can state their case for believing what they do with out being disrespectful.
But as soon as you start making cracks about me?

We are done.

Can you handle it?

I appreciate the fact that we're done since you're too thick to understand simple humor.
