Who's your favorite Female senator/congresswoman?

that's because you live in the deep south.

California has two women senators, and, I'm pretty sure we have more female congressional representatives than men from our state.

We have a female lieutenant governor. Actually, both of the people running for LG were women, and one was black. The black one just didn't have a shot in hell, though... it's not that Mississippians hate black people. It's just that the black people who usually are elected by other black people have very populist values that are somewhat different than the religious conservative values of the majority of Mississippians.

c'mon guys. It's not that hard to think of at least one you like.

The women senators, as a whole, are more impressive in many respects, than the men senators as a whole.

You can be a dumb white male, and still get elected to the senate. Look at that senile, kook from Kentucky. Bunting, I think? Or Thad Cocoran of Mississippi. That guys an idiot. James Inhofe? Please, what an embarrasment.

In contrast, you pretty much have to be an outstanding, top notch female to get elected to the Senate. You can't slide by as a medicore, somewhat stupid candidate - like a white male can. None of the female senators is down at the level with a Bunting, Cocoran, or Inhofe.

Thad Cochran is an excellent senator. I'd vote for him, while I'd slit my wrist before I voted for our other senator, Trent Lott. You don't even know enough about Thad Cochran to make a judgement, you just know he's a Republican, and that's how you make your judgement.

And Cypress, if getting elected to senate is so easy for idiots, then why can't you get in there?

All female politicians seem to have a rather odd hatred for free trade. I don't know why. But free trade's like my biggest issue, besides electoral reform, and as soon as I saw that all of the female politicians you listed hated it (and usually hated most social liberal stances, as well), I couldn't support them.

You are correct, of all the Senators, who are dumber than a bag full of hammers, all are male.

Mott: when it comes to the senate, the bar is higher for women. They have to meet a higher standard, in order to even be a senator.

Do you think if doddering, old senile fools like Robert Byrd or Strom Thurmond were females, they'd get elected year after year? Or, if a woman was as stupid as Jim Bunting, she'd have a prayer at getting elected to the senate?

The reason most senators are male is because most females usually don't have a desire to run as politicians. Whenever they do they usually clear the field.

i would believe they are like me, Fair trade is better than Free trade!

To be honest, I like most of the Women senators. You are correct, of all the Senators, who are dumber than a bag full of hammers, all are male. I have to agree with you, how do imbeciles like Bunting and Imhoffe keep getting elected?

Bunting got elected riding on the Republican wagon and running lying ads. I think the guy took too many balls to the head. He is dumber than a bucket of rocks, but echoes the republican talking points...
But the foolish voters did not care, his opponent had a foreign sounding name.....
I figure he is out next time due to the decline of the republican party...

Now if we can just get rid of McConnel....

Well this wasn't a question about who is good it was your favorite and frankly I don't have one. In case many of you didn't notice I'm not the biggest fan of government or our 535 friends in the Capitol building.

To be honest the list of even any Reps or Senators I like would be short.

Lets see:

Ron Paul
Chuck Hagel

might be a couple more but I can't think of any although I'm not familiar with a majority of the Congressman.

Isn't Barbara lee the most liberal member of Congress and is the only Congressperson to vote against operations in Afghanistan?

First, I don't even know how you even begin to quantify who is the "most liberal'. So I don't have an answer for that.

The answer to the second part of the question, is NO.

She should be on death row!

Didn't say that but for me that wouldn't catapult her to favorite position either.

I looked her up to check after I said that.

from Wikipedia:

Lee is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Lee is notable as the only person in either house of Congress who voted against the authorization of use of force following the September 11, 2001 attacks.[5]. This made her a hero among the anti-war movement, but also caused her to receive death threats.[6] Lee has been a vocal critic of the Iraq War and supports legislation creating a Department of Peace.

I know you didn't say it, I was just being provocative. ;)

Whether she voted for the invasion of Afghanistan or not, there were some rare voices against it at the time. I think now that they might have had something to say that was worth hearing, agree or not.

What, by the way, have we accomplished in Afghanistan?

Frankly, IHG: I'm starting to think Barbara Lee was right.

There's no doubt we have the right to self defense. And to pursue or kill the people who perpetrated 9/11. Barbara Lee was never against that goal.

Maybe it should have been approached more as an intelligence, law enforcement, and perhaps covert ops mission.

I'm looking at the occupation of Afghanistan in 2007, and to me it doesn't look cool.

That is the opinion I have come around to. And while I'm not ashamed of having supported the invasion, I am ashamed that I shut out voices speaking against it, as "loons". They did have something to say. I won't make that mistake again.

What, by the way, have we accomplished in Afghanistan?

Nothing but I lay the blame on the CIC for that and not the Congress. People didn't know how incompetent the admin was yet. And I doubt Lee knew something the rest of us didn't.

I believe it hasn't been handled well and I chalk it up to not being willing to pursue Al-Queda and the Taliban into Pakistan. That is why they have been resurgent.

She may not have been a foreign policy expert on afghanistan. But, fundamentally she had the good sense to point out that military action and occupation could have unintended consequences....and that we really needed to think things through.

Looking back and given the situation in Afghanistan, those were pretty wise words - don't you think?

Statement of Ms. BARBARA LEE, on House floor: "Mr. Speaker, I rise today really with a very heavy heart, one that is filled with sorrow for the families and the loved ones who were killed and injured this week. Only the most foolish and the most callous would not understand the grief that has really gripped our people and millions across the world.

This unspeakable act on the United States has forced me, however, to rely on my moral compass, my conscience, and my God for direction. September 11 changed the world. Our deepest fears now haunt us. Yet I am convinced that military action will not prevent further acts of international terrorism against the United States. This is a very complex and complicated matter.

This resolution will pass, although we all know that the President can wage a war even without it. However difficult this vote may be, some of us must urge the use of restraint. Our country is in a state of mourning. Some of us must say, let us step back for a moment. Let us just pause for a minute and think through the implications of our actions today so that this does not spiral out of control."

I have agonized over this vote, but I came to grips with it today and I came to grips with opposing this resolution during the very painful yet very beautiful memorial service. As a member of the clergy so eloquently said, ``As we act, let us not become the evil that we deplore.''
