I believe it hasn't been handled well and I chalk it up to not being willing to pursue Al-Queda and the Taliban into Pakistan. That is why they have been resurgent.
Agreed that it's been handled terribly. But I wonder if it was ever necessary to begin with? It's a tough call ,because I was more than happy to see the Taliban get disbanded. I hated those guys. You know, long before a lot of Americans ever heard of them, women's groups, and women's magazines (and I mean very mainstream magazines) were writing about them.
But the thing is, a group of criminals killed 3.000 people. When we invaded and bombed them, we killed innocents. I remember a year or two after our invasion, the childhood severe malnutritions figures had doubled. That's nothing to be proud of. For me these past few years have taught me that I would never, under any circumstances, want children to be killed in retribution for my death. I often wonder if it is ever "justified".
And I think there is a better way. If we had used special operations, and teams of specially trained units, to capture the particular people responsible (both directly and indirectly), might that not have had a better outcome? I would not even be against their assinations. If that is the only way to do it, and if it saves civilian lives. You know, I'm not a pacifist, I really dont' care, fine, kill them. Whatever it takes to take them out. But bombs, invasion and occupation...is that justice?
