Why do the Texas border counties almost all vote Democratic?

It was true at the time. This election showed that things there have changed
The state elects presidents, not the border.

In Arizona there are two border counties that vote heavily Democrat and two that don't. Here's the list and why:

Santa Cruz: The smallest county in Arizona and heavily Hispanic. Has a long history of voting for Democrats and the Left. Raul Grijalva the representative in the House from there is one of the most radical Leftists in Congress. Many families have relatives on both sides of the border.

Pima: Easily 80%+ of the vote there is centered in Tucson home to the University of Arizona. It is the "Berkeley" of Arizona. Most of the county west of Tucson is uninhabited as it is a combination of federal land including wildlife preserves, national parks, Indian reservations, and a huge USAF bombing range. The Native American population also tends to vote Democrat.

Cochise: Cochise county is home to Fort Huachuca and other military land. It has a high percentage of veterans living there. Much of the rest of the county consists of Mormons (towns like St. David which is likely close to 100% Mormon) and ranchers. With the demise of mining in that county there is little in the way of anything supporting Democrats there today.

Yuma: A mix of military--USMC this time--and ranchers. Throw in that it has long been on the forefront of illegal immigration making that a hot button issue there. Again, Democrats gain little traction. Even the Hispanic population there is anti-illegal immigrant.

no, I’m saying that those who understand the issue don’t fall for trumps lies.
I'm visiting the in-laws in Texas and I read one of the big Dallas Morning News editorials this morning and it might as well have been written specifically for you.

Democrats learn the real meaning of ‘Latino vote’

Wrong assumptions about a changing demographic are a losing game.

Yes, the Texas border is heavily dominated by Latinos and yes, for generations they have voted Democratic (if you've ever read Robert Caro's books on LBJ, LBJ stole the 1948 Senate election with all his fake votes along the border).

But as the editorial wrote, times have changed and in 2020 more Latino's along the border vote for Trump. And that trend continued with this election with him winning 14 of the 18 border counties and a majority of the Latino vote in the state.

You didn't look at any of that. You just saw the history, saw they were Latino's and thought nothing has changed. You pulled the ultimate identity politics play.

It's interesting to see some in the Democratic Party recognize this but others don't.

You are wrong. The border region, and around the major cities, were mostly either Harris, or close to tied. That is the way it has been for years now.

Your map proves that I am correct. Look at all the red way at the southern part of Texas that never used to be there...........

The light red, and blue of southern Texas prove that it is not "hardcore red." It, along with the areas around the major cities, are the least red of all of Texas.
How much did those counties shift red from 2020? They went to the right, and they went to the right HARD!

The election results say differently. They did shift towards trump, but they went from light Democratic to light trump, and from hard Democratic to light Democratic.

In Texas, trump did worst in and around the major cities, and close to the border.

Nope, you're just smoking the copium again....

Let's start with Cameron County, the southernmost county in Texas:
2020) 42.9 / 56.1 -- Biden +13.2
2024) 52.5 / 46.7 -- Trump +5.8
That's a Trump +19 swing right there.

If you add in 2016, which Killary won by 32.5 points, that's now a 38.3% SHIFT RIGHTWARD in that county since 2016......

Thanks for sharing.

Libtards, according to libtards, are NEVER wrong and are NEVER to blame. They are ALWAYS correct and anything bad that happens in their life is always someone else's fault.
Indeed.

Walter should read this link.

How border counties in Texas flipped from blue to red for ...

4 days ago — Trump soundly defeated Harris in 12 of 14 Texas counties touching the border. Concerns over immigration only partly explain it.

Since it appears that @Walt has taken his ball and run away like the little baby that he is, let's take a look at neighboring (and more populated) Hidalgo County:

2016) 28.1 / 68.6 --- Killary +40.5
2020) 41.0 / 58.0 --- Biden +17
2024) 51.0 / 48.1 --- Trump +2.9

So, that's a 19.9 point shift rightward since 2020, and a 43.4 point rightward shift since 2016. Hmmmmmmm.......

Should we do another one???

... Yes, we shall. C'mon @Walt , let's take a look at Starr County:

2016) 19.0 / 79.1 --- Killary +60.1
2020) 47.1 / 52.1 --- Biden +5
2024) 57.7 / 41.8 --- Trump +15.9

So, that's a 20.9 point shift rightward since 2020, and a 76 point rightward shift since 2016. Hmmmmmmm.......
