It's a good question. Is it conditioning or is there something genetic that makes someone susceptible to conspiracy theorizing like there's something that makes someone more susceptible to addiction?
All that is certain is that the internet will likely spawn a higher percentage of people who's elevators don't go to the top floor than we've seen previously because information is so readily accessible and, unlike the past, you can easily find people who confirm your crazy. Pre-internet, chat rooms and forums, the crazy people likely had a much more difficult time finding other crazy people. Imagine talking to your neighbor, coworker, etc and slipping in...."So, it seems clear that Pelosi and DePape were gay lovers and something went wrong that caused the fight...DePape didn't break into the house, you know, the glass was broken from the inside."
There is a social cost to letting those thoughts escape your mind and the nutter butters likely learned pretty quick to keep the crazy safely locked in their heads.
Today, those crazies host YouTube shows, have their own sites and post on JPP
