They have a variant form of the disease, more a sort of chauvinism, a hatred of the people next door. We didn't have to convince ourselves that slavery was necessary - just that colonialism was a good thing (where it was possible - not in many countries), and a lot of that was justified by the idea that we were doing good, not just thieving. The only Europe-wide minority was the Jews, and anti-Semitism of the really vicious kind was patchy. The UK, after all, had a Prime Minister of Jewish background before you fought the Civil War. Yes, certainly there is Nazism in Europe, but it has to work with some very patchy elements of history, and hatred of Muslims is a bit comically reminiscent of the Crusades for most of those who know any history at all. I wasn't claiming European superiority - just a major difference about racism.
