Why should the United States of America remain a fifty-state country?

Why should people with completely incompatible values try to share borders, laws, tax codes, and a government in general?

We see the anger and hatred in America today.
There's no sane reason to believe that it will do anything but get worse. It's getting worse by the minute right now.
The hatred is palpable, and as we're divided so evenly, half the country is ALWAYS going to be in a stage of white hot rage,
even if it's not always the same half.

For now, we don't seem to have the stones to do anything about it.
We're going to make ourselves the new Afghanistan. Remember these words. It can't NOT happen the way we're going.
Only when things get that bad will people see the value of partition as the people of the USSR, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia saw it not that long ago.

By then, however, there won't be much to save.
We'll have burnt most of it down by then.
And history will view us as the most pathetic assholes in the history of the human species.
And if that's the language used, it will have been too kind.

For once we agree. Let's get a fucking divorce. Your western states can join up with Mexico, Midwest and NE to Canada. Or do your own thing. You can call us FlyOverVille as far as I care.

Split the debt, military, any assets according to population.

That's the ticket. With the exception of a few dinky states like MA, VT and DE, it's really only the large urban areas that are a blight to America. So we can get rid of very little land mass by creating "Liberaland", comprised of VT, MA, Metro NY/ NJ Philly, DE, and three or four enclaved states of LA and surrounding counties, etc.

Where do you propose the dividing lines because I'd love to see where most of the fighting will be.

Highest amount of murder & Fed welfare / benefit use per capita, lowest amount of Fed taxes paid into the system, then states like New York have to fund their lousy military adventures.

No. In fact, when did the US ever fight a war against itself to free the slaves? What was the main reason President Lincoln conducted the War of Northern Aggression? Hint: Letter to Horace Greeley.

In this case it'd be over resources, mostly water, but also timber, minerals, transit. Example: what if Kansas decides to put a $1000 tax on every vehicle transiting the Great Midwestern Alliance either on I-70 or I-35?

A logical response would be "well, they'd just drive around". Sure, but that's where the importance of knowing "where the lines are drawn" comes into play.
