Only a bit of an exaggeration . . . and he's always in a frenzy so that's not even a quibble. That's an exageration, Ornot. You're going to throw him into a frenzy and it really isn't going to get anyone anywhere.
No, I advocate recognizing and admitting that we have a problem. You, on the other hand, advocate actively denying that ethnic discrimination exists today. You seem to think that if government policy becomes blind to ethnicity then all ethnic discrimination will magically disappear from society. It will not. In fact, it's likely to get worse. You advocate racial consciousness in public policy. You're the nazi. You're the hitler saying "whites are to successful and should be discriminated against". You just inserted 'white' for 'jew'.
I think any university, private or otherwise, that gives preferential admission based on legacy or athletics should have it's license to operate revoked.
But there is a season for everything under the sun and it may be that AA has served it's historical purpose and the time may be at hand to end it. I'm open minded to that discussion.
I disagree with that strongly. I was a legacy admission into graduate school. And though I was certainly qualified for admission I'm sure I was choosen over equally qualified students because both my father and uncle were graduates of that school.
They both were successful in their chosen profesions and each graduate of a college or university who succeed contributes to the success, prestige and reputation of the school. In addition both my father and uncle (and now I) have contributed money as alumni to that school.
So the point being is that my family has contributed significantly more to the success of that school then those applicant who are not legacies.
So I do not think it completely fair to place legacy admissions in the same light as overt discrimination based on race.
Having said that AA has served a good and usefull function to repair the damage that historical descrimination of whites towards minorities had done to them culturally and educationally.
In my fathers day minorities were denied access to education, which created all sorts of social ills in their communities, not to mention loss of economic oppurtunity. But now, thanks to AA their grandchildren are competing on pretty close to even footing with my kids.....and that's a damned good thing and we owe it to AA.

Do you fellate your dad with that mouth?

So what? You didn't deserve your degree, and you bumped another person out of college because you have a rich dad? Yeah, that's about as bad as racism.
What kind of logic are you using? You aren't your dad and you shouldn't have special rights over the rest of us because of that.
Any university that practices such bigotry against the poor should have it's license removed IMMEDIATELY, and be demolished.
Asinine false assumptions dude. What the hell did you ever do for my school? NOTHING! Besides, I would have been accepted anyways, or did you miss, I WAS QUALIFIED. Nor did I have a rich father, he's a retired rural physician. I paid for my school the old fashioned way. With student loans.
You also miss the point of legacy programs. They are intended to maintain continued financial support from alumni. Most Colleges and Universities, even state funded ones, could not exist with out the endowments from alumni.
Are legacy admissions valid? Certainly. Can they be abused and be a form of descrimination? Of course. But so can Affirmative Action.
I'm open minded to that discussion.
Oh wow. You're open minded to ending continual violation of the civil rights of white people? How big of you. You're a frickin saint.
Oh the whiny ass complaining of a second rate bigot. No government program ever stopped me from succedding.
Get a life.
LOL. Again MD answers a poser troll as if they are real...
