You galactically stupid fuck. Beginning in May 2025, IDs will simply need to comply with the REAL ID Act. My current driver license was issued in 2021. It is REAL ID compliant. I never had to show anyone proof of citizenship or legal presence in the country. Where do you idiots get your information?
No, you don't. You simply have to show that you live in the jurisdiction. A piece of mail suffices most places. No one investigates citizenship status.

Many people haven't gotten a real ID, while illegals cannot get one--or at least are not supposed to be able to. Just because you have a driver's license, doesn't mean you got a real ID version. To do so, you have to present at the DMV stuff like proof of you address, a passport, birth certificate, citizenship papers, etc., that prove you are legally in the US and a citizen.
A real ID is proof of citizenship / legal presence in the US. Without one, you can be assumed to be here illegally. For example, I haven't bothered to go to the DMV and get the driver's license version because I have a US military ID card that serves the purpose, along with a valid US passport. Without something like that, come enforcement of that act, you won't be able to fly, get on a cruise ship, cross the US border, etc. It could easily be extended to getting a job, opening a bank account, making a wire transfer, as well.
