It didn't take THAT long, but the term has been hijacked by the usual reactionaries and status quoers who would prefer that America somehow find its way back to the 1950's and not have to come to terms with centuries of inequality and injustice.

Are there some who overused the term, or made it a "better than thou" boast? Of course. But all it means is being aware. Acknowledging the issues that are right in front of our face.

Woke is a term used by the young and P.O.C. and the liberals on this board are largely white and boomers so it’s not all that surprising it doesn’t get used here.

Saying liberals around the country don’t use it is 100% false. I posted LeBron’s tweet yesterday where he said “stay woke”. It’s a regular phrase people use. Hell, my Pastor is a white left wing activist millennial and he regularly calls our church a woke church.

The NY Times, WaPo and NPR have all written about being woke and more recently does Joe Biden have a woke problem. If you think liberals don’t use the term you aren’t paying close enough attention.

it doesn't change the fact that neither myself or any friend of mine uses the term, and I know I would not
know of it unless is was some strange irritant for rightees. Cawacko started leaning on it in derision perhaps
6 months ago like a chew toy. I was like "huh?" Maybe now I've heard talking heads Cuomo or Anderson Cooper
use in twice. Not sure.
