As you know good sister .. because you and I are buds :0) I'm all for the equality of women. But combat is a different animal altogether.

Feel free to tell me I'm wrong .. I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

I used to teach martial arts, many of my students were women. Besides teaching all the usual structures of Isshinryu, I also taught what's called "Dou" .. street skills. What to do if your life is on the line. What I taught to women is different than what I taught to men. If a woman's life is on the line in an attack, punching a man in the face is meaningless. You'll just make him mad.

If her life is on the line, her vision of what she sees in front of her must change. She should be focusing on the Adam's Apple, the eyes, the bridge of the nose, fingers, the groin, knees, toes, and of course, any available weapons .. like pencils and keys.

There is no equality when it comes to strength. Yes there are many strong women, but there are many, many more stronger men. Nobody wants to see a MMA fight between a woman and a man.

Women are as valuable as men .. without becoming men.

The hand-to-hand fighting skills taught to soldiers are meant to never happen.

Additionally, if women soldiers are put on the ground in places where Al Queda roams .. atrocities are inevitable. They are monsters. Regardless of where you stand on Libya .. look at what the so-called "rebels" did to the people they captured. You won't want to look at it I assure you.

I'm not sure that equality is the real question in this case .. but I'd like to hear what you think.

I am a total chicken and have no desire to be on the front line and I was, in all honesty, glad I could not be drafted, but there are those women who feel they are quite capable. My niece is a West Point graduate, graduated with honors. She is furthering her studies in medicine. There was a time when she would not have been allowed to attend West Point. I am proud of her and her accomplishments. Her own father was skeptical, himself a West Point graduate, but now, he could not be prouder.

I share some of your same concerns, but I truly feel that if there are women who wish to be on the frontline that they should not be denied just because of their gender. Now if they fail all the tests required to be combat ready, they should not go, just like a man.

I just keep thinking of my friend who is 6 foot tall, over 200 lbs and is stronger than my son. She is a boxer and I have no doubt she could be frontline, combat ready if she wished.

I do not think it is for all women, but I also don't think it is for all men, either.

I don't necessarily disagree with you brother .. but my daughter has been in the military for 14 years, 11 as active duty. She's E7, SFC .. and will soon be on the list for E8 because of her outstanding scores at Leadership training. E9 is as high as one could go as a noncom.

Many retire from the military after 20 years and never make E7.

While I agree that combat duty is the key to advancement for most .. that isn't the exclusive route.

From my perspective, I wouldn't care if she retired as an E1 .,. as long as she comes home alive and whole. That baby in my avatar needs her just as much as I do.

The male interviewer was coming out with the usual PC claptrap but she just brushed him off and said there were very few women with the physical attributes. She quite rightly pointed out that infantry are expected to survive in extremely grim conditions and to be able to engage in hand to hand fighting.

One may be at a disadvantage, but it is short lived when several friends with guns are within 10 meters.

My daughter is two weeks from being shipped out to Afghanistan good brother. It will be her 4th deployment .. now as a senior Noncom.

At her request, I cannot talk about her position on this issue or any issues because she fears her father is monitored and could negatively affect her career.

We never talk about politics although we know what is in each others head.

I have however, spoken to several female soldiers about the issue and the consensus is both ways. Some feel as if combat duty is the only way to advancement .. others speak of their fears.

As a father who often has nightmares when my daughter is in combat zones, I'm not looking forward to the implementation of this decision.

As always, I am appreciative of her service. I hope it goes well and she comes through unscathed. I know this is tough on you. Not only due to personal beliefs about war in general, but also (and more importantly) because your child is in harms way. Thoughts are with you man.
