If it brings manufacturing back to the US and we don't have to rely on foreign nations for necessities we will be more secure and one could say "better off" even if they are more expensive as we no longer have to rely on China (for instance) for necessities (like rare earth elements or chips).

There are plenty of other people besides China, who sell rare earth elements, and chips. However, if they can give it to us cheaper than we can produce it I’m not sure that’s a win.
