INEZ, Ky. (AP) - Republican John McCain on Wednesday asked the North Carolina GOP not to run a television ad that brings up the controversial former pastor of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

North Carolina Republican party officials insisted the ad will run as planned despite McCain's request.

The ad opens with a photo of Obama and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright together and a clip of Wright, whose incendiary comments about race have bedeviled Obama.

"He's just too extreme for North Carolina," the narrator says in the 30-second spot.

"We asked them not to run it," McCain told reporters traveling with him in Kentucky. "I'm sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down.

"I don't know why they do it. Obviously, I don't control them, but I'm making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there's no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don't want it," McCain said.

I think I missed it----just who is going to run a McCain presidency ?

The Reublicans aren't acting like sheep or marching in lock step and who bitches ?? The democrats --you gotta love it.:D

There are two possibilities ..

Either McCain is truly this impotent, or he's in on the game.

I vote the latter.

Many are fooled by the "maverick" label, but truth be told, he's as loyal a goosestepper as Bush is.

ahhahahaha.

Oh come on guys this has been being done for years in campaigns. You have someone else go negative so the candidate can stand above it and say "oh I told them not to do it".

What he can do is to condem it in the strongest terms. Fly into the state and sit the guy down and tell him to remove any referance to your name in the add. Go on TV and deny anything full of bullshit ,full of bullshit in the add. Like that when Rev Wright is saying god damned America in the clip he is quoting a white US General.

I realize that's what you would like to see happen so you can drag out the old lock step line but McCain is not in charge of the Republican party.

He did everything in his power. I mean, he sent an email and left a voicemail! What more do you want people?

Expect this to repeat itself over and over and over again and again and again.

Um, yeah.

I thought people were actualy buying the "McCain is really pissed over this" story. I was getting nervous! :)

Of course, Republican message board posters swore to the heavens that W was “furious” over the swiftboat ads against Kerry. I never knew if they were that stupid, or if they were cracking up laughing when they wrote it, just like bush was after he said he “didn’t agree with those ads”. Since in my experience, Republicans are both sneaky and stupid, it’s hard to say.

I thought this was a 527. It's the fricking party in NC. I'd be hacked if I were McCain, crap like this backfires.
