A man in his 20s was found dead in the middle of an Orange Cove street in an apparent homicide, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

Orange Cove police were called to the 300 block of Ninth Street, near McCord Elementary School, after two people leaving for work saw a man lying in the middle of the street, Lt. Brent Stalker said.

Paramedics arrived minutes later and declared the man had died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Homicide detectives from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation because of their resources and expertise, Stalker said. Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and crime scene investigators collected evidence.

Detectives spoke with a person who may have heard gunfire nearby, but it wasn’t reported then because the person wasn’t sure if it was gunfire.

WASHINGTON - US police were on a manhunt Thursday for two individuals suspected of shooting dead five people at a backyard barbecue in the northeastern US state of Pennsylvania.

Three women and a man died at the shooting scene, while another woman died of her wounds in the hospital, in the late Wednesday bloodbath in the Pittsburgh suburb of Wilkinsburg, police said in a statement.

Three others -- two men and a women -- were wounded in the shooting and hospitalized, police said.

"The ballistic evidence on the scene leads police to believe that two different weapons were discharged from two different people," according to the statement.

Police believe the victims were ambushed: one shooter forced the partygoers to seek cover, while a second shooter opened fire from the side or behind them.

There were no arrests, and police were urging witnesses to help their investigation.

The Allegheny county medical examiner later identified the fatalities as four women between the ages of 25 and 37, and a 35 year-old man.

Of the hospitalized victims, the woman was treated and released, while the two men remain "in critical condition," the statement said.

Wilkinsburg has a population of about 16,000, is located around six miles (10 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh.

Police said shots were fired from an alley, and that when partygoers tried to seek cover in the home, someone on the side or backyard next to the residence opened fired at the back porch, where all four deaths at the scene occurred.

Investigators currently do not believe that any of the victims fired back during the shooting, Lieutenant Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County Police Department told AFP.

According to CBS affiliate KDKA, neighbors reported hearing 30 to 40 shots ring out.

Emergency dispatchers said seven ambulances were called to the chaotic scene, local broadcaster WPXI reported.

Neighborhood resident Kayla Alexander told WPXI that the street where the shooting occurred is not known for crime.

"This street is always quiet, there's nothing but kids on this street," Alexander said.

"I'm shaken ... it's pretty sad."

Local media footage from the scene early Thursday showed a massive police presence and streets blocked off as distraught onlookers wept and hugged.

Multiple shell casings littered the ground in the alley as detectives scoured the scene.

WPXI reported that some said they had lost family members.

"My baby! My baby!" one woman at the scene could be heard screaming, according to WTAE-TV Pittsburgh.

The rampage represents the latest mass shooting to rock the United States.

Last month, a factory worker killed three people and wounded 17 in a shooting spree in Kansas.

Other recent mass shootings include a rampage by an Uber driver that left six people dead in Michigan, and the December terror attack in San Bernardino, California, where 14 people lost their lives.

Gun violence is responsible for some 30,000 deaths per year in the country, with 330 mass shooting incidents recorded last year.

There Have Been 23 Mass Shootings in the Last 20 Days

It began on February 19 at 509 Porter Street in Vallejo, California, and continued through yesterday, at 1304 Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh. In between, the trend struck Florida and Michigan and Kansas and Ohio. There have been 23 mass shootings in the last 20 days in the U.S., according to the Gun Violence Archive, defined by incidents in which four or more people are shot. It has been a deadly spasm of gun violence, the latest reminder of a national sickness.

The most violent day in the last three weeks was February 20. It included the Uber driver in Kalmazoo, Michigan, who went on a rampage in between picking up fares. You probably heard about that one, but did you hear about the four other mass shootings that day? All five incidents, spanning four states, left a total of 15 people injured and 10 people dead.

Over the course of 20 days, 128 people were shot by mass shooters. 86 people were injured and 42 were killed across 17 states. The single worst incident was in Hesston, Kansas, where a man went to three locations in the course of 24 minutes, shooting 18 people and killing four. He was a serial domestic abuser who had been served a restraining order against his girlfriend. The other incidents on the list fit all types of profiles: Workplace shootings, school shootings, gang shootouts.

Apart from a question or two at the Democratic debates, gun violence has rarely been on the radar of this monumental presidential campaign. There have been 9,210 shootings in the United States since January 1, according to the Archive. There are too many sick people in this country, and it's far too easy to get a gun. Hell, it's as easy to buy your new AR-15 on Facebook as to like a friend's status update. Maybe it's time we started trying to cure this American disease.

You be the judge. From what I can tell, there is no pattern to strict gun laws being able to stop gun violence. Either the laws aren't working, or there is something else to blame for gun violence. What I would like to see is to have guns manufactured that can only shoot when the owner of that gun is holding it. Fingerprint technology possibly?

Who said anything about gun laws? Bobo made the claim that:

A man's body was found in the parking lot of an auto repair shop late Tuesday night.

Police responded to the Midas shop at 8th Street and Northside Drive after two brothers heard gunshots. After police arrived, they found a man lying on the ground beside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chris and Patrick Kelly said they looked outside of their balcony after hearing four to five gunshots and saw a white hatchback pull away from the Midas auto shop.
