A University of Texas police officer has been seriously injured after accidentally shooting himself.

University of Texas Police Department Chief David Carter said at a news conference that officer's gun went off and the bullet went through his left. The officer has been identified as Cory Morrison.

Morrison was reportedly speaking with two other UTPD officer who were in their patrol car when the gun went off. Chief Carter says it's unclear if the discharge was a result of mechanical or human error.

A couple faces felony weapon charges after a gun accidentally fired in a St. George RV and trailer park.

Police say it's remarkable no one got hurt when the bullet hit three homes that were occupied at Hillside Palm RV Park.

St. George Police say 28-year-old Matthew Miano was showing 26-year-old Kasey Ferguson a shotgun when it accidentally fired around midnight.

The bullet went through two trailer homes before coming to a rest in a third.

A Pike County woman is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the face after an apparent accidental shooting at her home.

Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Greg Martin said Richard Lawrence, 42, of McComb, told deputies around 3:30 p.m. that his mother, Dorothy Lawrence, 71, of Kennedy Road, had accidentally been shot.

Investigators responding to a call of an accidental shooting ended up arresting a teen for having a gun.

Deputies responded to a call on May 13th to the area of Yaupon Drive for a reported accidental shooting.

The victim refused to press charges, describing the events as accidental.

Prior to the deputies' arrival, the suspect left the scene; however, the handgun used in the shooting and an additional handgun were recovered after a search of the scene by detectives.

The handgun used in the shooting was discovered to have had its serial number scratched off.

A man is recovering after being shot in the buttocks Tuesday night.

According to police dispatchers, two men were outside of a vehicle at another location when one of the men accidentally shot the other in the backside.

Police say the man was on his way to a local hospital when he contacted emergency crews. He was told to pull into Walmart near 66th and Memorial shortly after 6:30 p.m. to wait for a nearby EMSA crew.

No other injuries have been reported and no one has been arrested.

Police are investigating an accidental shooting on Highway 169.

Police said a driver accidentally shot himself in the leg while driving. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening wound.

He originally told officers someone shot him but then told them what really happened. He will not face additional charges for lying to police but could be arrested.

Traffic is backed up in the northbound lanes of Highway 169.

Police say a woman was hospitalized after an accidental shooting in central Sioux Falls.

According to Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, a group of five people were hanging out at a house. One of them, a 17-year-old male, was drinking alcohol and handling a .45 caliber handgun.

At some point, the gun went off, hitting another woman at the house in the "rear end." She was hospitalized with a damaged pelvis, though Clemens says her injuries are not life-threatening.

All witnesses told police the shooting was accidental. The teen who allegedly fired the weapon took off running, though he was found a short time later nearby. Clemens says the handgun was found a few feet away. The suspect also had a small amount of marijuana in his possession.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing police, and marijuana possession.

The incident is still under investigation.

Police are investigating the accidental shooting of a three-year-old boy.

According to police,a call came into dispatch stating that the boy had been accidentally shot.

Officer Tony Harding said the child was taken to Baptist Hospital by a private vehicle instead of an ambulance.

After being evaluated at the hospital, the child was taken by life flight to Memorial Herman Children's Hospital in Houston.

The boy suffered from a single gun shot wound to the head according to Mary Poole with Baptist Hospital.

It was revealed Friday that Portland Police Chief Larry O’Dea was involved in an accidental shooting while on vacation.

In a statement released by the bureau, Sgt. Pete Simpson says O’Dea was vacationing in Harney County when his rifle accidentally discharged, injuring a close friend. The incident was reported to the sheriff’s office.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has charged George Chapple, 59, with murder in the shooting death of his wife early Friday morning. A mugshot of Chapple was not immediately available.

The woman, who was found shot to death inside her Northeast Bexar County home, had moved in only recently, neighbors said.

County deputies found the woman gravely wounded around 1:30 a.m. Friday. She was rushed to a hospital but died a short time later.

An accidental shooting claimed the life of a 10-year-old child Friday.

Crews responded to the call at a home located on Welcome Home Church Road in Marshall County.

Officials are interviewing witnesses to find out more information about how the shooting occurred. They have not released any further information at this time.

Sources say DHR was at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

George Coty Wayman is facing capital murder charges after police allege he fatally shot his 3-year-old stepson in the head when the child wouldn't stop jumping on his bed.

Wayman pointed a gun at the child while ordering him off the bed he'd been jumping on. But the boy didn't listen, according to police.

Officers responding to Wayman's mobile home were initially told that the child had accidentally shot himself. But several eyewitnesses to the shooting accused Wayman of purposely pointing the weapon at the child, and firing.

A Nashua man has pleaded guilty to federal gun charges following an accident that claimed the life of his father.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports 24-year-old Dale Edward White pleaded guilty and faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be at a later date.

Court records state White and his father, Karl White were handling a loaded rifle in the living room of their home when the weapon fired.

Karl White died of a gunshot wound to the head. The state Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death accidental.

Police report finding 47 other guns during a search of the home.

A 5-year-old girl was killed Saturday after she shot herself while playing with a handgun, the Sheriff's office said in a news release.

Deputies identified the girl as Haley Moore.

Authorities responded about 9:45 a.m. to a medical emergency at a home on Country Club Drive. Moore was transported to a local hospital where she died.

The girl's father told deputies that she shot herself while playing with a handgun. The weapon had not been stored in a secure location, deputies said.

The man who accidentally shot his neighbor while trying to kill a rabid raccoon pleaded guilty to reckless handling of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, a class 6 Felony, per an agreement reached with the prosecution.

Douglas A. Ward, 50, will be sentenced Sept. 9 in Culpeper County Circuit Court in the incident that occurred near the intersection of the relatively populated area of Gum Street and Orange Road. Ward shot his female neighbor while attempting to shoot what he felt was a rabid animal.
