Rudolfo Morin got lucky, according to Colorado Springs police.

Morin, who is accused of negligently discharging a firearm in his home in the 5500 block of Woodmen Ridge View, put neighbors at risk.

The 40-year-old man was handling the firearm while under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication when the gun went off, police said.

The bullet went through Morin's bedroom window in the direction of an occupied apartment multiplex.

Police found no signs the bullet struck the complex, and all occupants inside were safe. Where the bullet came to rest is unknown.

The gun also was fired close to Morin's face. He suffered puncture abrasions to his face from the unburned powder and debris exiting the barrel of the firearm, police said.

A Buffalo Grove woman is in “very critical condition” after she was wounded in a random drive-by shooting while on her way home from a Wisconsin Dells vacation with her family.

WGN TV reports Tracy Czaczkowski, 44, is on life support in Madison following the highway shooting that happened on I-90/I-94. Her husband tried to pass the shooter's Chevy Blazer on I-90/I-94.

The man in the Blazer fired three shots at the family's vehicle, according to police, and fired shots at other vehicles, too.

One shot hit the passenger side door of their BMW sedan. Another hit the hood. A devastating shot hit the woman in the neck as her family watched. Her husband tried to render medical aid to her as they waited for paramedics, police said.

Witnesses told KTTC.com the driver of the Blazer also was tossing beer cans onto the highway when he opened fire. At least one other car was struck, driven by a woman from Florida. The highway was packed with motorists traveling home from the Dells.

Gjuana Hewitt, who was driving through Wisconsin on vacation from Florida, says her car was shot during the incident. She was trying to pass the swerving SUV, but the driver swerved to nearly run her off the road.

"We were directly behind him at this point. He starts chucking beers out the window at us and then I put my head down to take down his license plate and he started shooting," Hewitt tells 27 News.

The shooting took place near Lake Delton in Sauk County.

Mahoney said her condition is "very critical." She was airlifted to a hospital in Baraboo and then transferred to UW Hospital, where she remains.

Several police agencies engaged in a high-speed chase in pursuit of the shooter, whose SUV was stopped when he drove over road spikes. He emerged from his vehicle, refused to drop his gun, and was shot by Columbia County sheriff's deputies. The West Allis, WI, man is 20 years old and is being treated at a hospital.

He's a suspect in a homicide that took place earlier in the day about 90 miles away in West Allis. Police believe the highway shooter killed Gabriel Sanchez, 42, and then went to a church in West Allis where he made several threats.

The police began looking for this man around 7 a.m. when they responded to reports of someone trying to forcibly enter a home in West Allis. There, officers found Sanchez dead. The suspect then went to a church, Epikos Church in Milwaukee, according to police, and threatened another church member before fleeing.

Hours later, the shooting on I-90/I-94 and the high-speed chase began. The chase covered about 15 miles and ended after 12 minutes, police said at a press conference.

After the shooter was taken down, a medical helicopter was brought in to take him to a hospital. Two other men, ages 30 and 34, were taken into custody, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Those men, the suspect's brothers, were also in the car and involved in the drive-by shooting, police said

A Texas transportation company employee was killed and another was wounded when a former employee walked into the business Wednesday morning and opened fire, police say.

The shooter then took his own life, according to Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman. He had been terminated from the business, Knight Transportation in Katy, earlier Wednesday morning, Hickman said.

Hickman called the shooting a "retaliatory act."

"Probably being terminated would make him disgruntled," Hickman said.

The former employee was carrying a shotgun and a pistol when he walked into the business just before 9 a.m., Hickman said. Only the shotgun was fired.

A Florida man shot himself in the arm while cleaning a handgun, but didn’t realize it until three days later when he finally changed shirts and found a bullet hole.

An arrest report says Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies were called after 37-year-old Michael Blevins went to a hospital Saturday. Blevins told them he was cleaning a .22 caliber pistol on Thursday when he held it against his chest to keep his dog from jumping near it.

As Blevins stood up, his back gave out and he fell. He says he heard a gunshot but didn’t feel pain from that, possibly because of medicine he takes for back pain.

He says he went about his business until Saturday when he changed shirts and saw the entrance and exit wounds.

10-year-old dies after accidental shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Marion County corner identified Noah Sarver, 10, as the victim of an accidental deadly shooting Sunday. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Sarver accidentally shot himself in the home on the 3500 block of East Vermont Street.

Police found Sarver dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators are still investigating, but officers say another child witnessed the shooting. Officers have yet to release where the gun came from.

“Everything at this point is on the table, only because the investigation is continuing, anytime a child shoots himself with a gun, our officers need to follow that case all the way through all potential criminal charges,” said Captain Richard Riddle.

Prosecutors have not determined if any criminal charges will be filed for Sarver’s death.

In less than two weeks, two children have died in accidental shootings. In late April, in the 5200 block of Alameda Road, firefighters worked desperately to revive a 2-year-old boy. Crews rushed the child to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition, and he later died from his injures.

Police say the young child shot himself after grabbing a gun from his mother’s purse on the kitchen counter.

According to police, the mother has cooperated with investigators.

IMPD is warning the public to protect your children from guns, and to talk with your children about what to do if they spot a gun. Riddle suggests adults telling their children not to touch the gun and to find an adult immediately.

“We would like to say to parents to start now, talking about safety with handguns, and safety with any handgun, a small child can shoot a gun as easily as an adult,” said Riddle.
