A gunman was shot and killed by police in Brooklyn after he wounded another man in an auto shop on Monday.

The suspect burst into Peter's Tire and Rim Shop on Linden Boulevard just before 5 p.m. and said "Peter, this is for you," according to police spokesman Paul Browne.

He then started shooting and struck his 49-year-old victim in the right shoulder and hand.

The suspect fled on foot and was confronted by two officers a few blocks away on Flatlands Avenue.

The man had two .38-caliber guns.

He had thrown one gun into the backseat of a livery cab that had stopped at a curb and had the other in his hand.

A 39-year-old sergeant and a 22-year-old officer stopped their vehicle and got out to confront him.

The man pointed a gun at them and said he wasn't going to be taken alive, Browne said.

That's when the officers opened fire.

Each fired one shot from a distance of about 20 feet.

The man was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

Anthony Leon Cobbs was shot to death Monday afternoon while trying to find out who owned an old car parked on Old Richmond Road near his Pittsylvania County home.

The Pittsyvania County Sheriff’s Office has charged Samuel Smith, 51, of Old Richmond Road, Danville, with first-degree murder.

Wimbush said a group that included Cobbs stopped to see if they could find out who owned a parked car on Old Richmond Road and if it was for sale.

There was no one at the property, she said, so they tried neighbors, who couldn’t help.

They walked around the car, Wimbush said, and noticed some kind of sign — a For Rent or For Sale sign — in the car with a phone number on it, opened the door and used a cell phone to call the number in hopes that it would lead them to the car’s owner.

It was disconnected, Wimbush said.

Then a vehicle pulled in, and a man holding a gun came toward them asking what they were doing on his property.

“We told him we were trying to find the owner; we showed him on the phone where we tried to call,” Wimbush said, tears streaking her face. “The man wouldn’t talk to us; we were trying to explain we were not trying to take anything.”

Wimbush said the man shot at the ground and she and her friends left as quickly as they could — but he fired again, at least one more time, and as they traveled just a short distance down the street, they noticed that Cobbs was bleeding heavily from his mouth.

Within an hour, about 40 people lined the street, waiting for answers — and bursting into tears as Cobbs’ body was covered, a sure sign that he was dead.

Police have released the names of the two men involved in a fatal shooting outside a shopping center in Ashland City on Monday afternoon.

Police said 40-year-old Shannon Scott Paul was killed, and 34-year-old Ryan Dickens was injured.

Investigators are trying to figure out whether the fatal shooting stemmed from road rage.

It all happened in a shopping center off Highway 12 in front of the Don Pancho restaurant.

Witnesses said the two men drove into the parking lot from Highway 12.

Both got out of their trucks and started arguing. Police said that is when Paul pulled out a gun and shot Dickens.

"Somebody pulled out a gun and started shooting and the gun was grabbed away from the original shooter. And then the original shooter got shot with his own gun by the other guy," said Ashland City Police Chief Marc Coulon.
