No, I'm not. Growing up in the country we used to have hunting rifles in the cupboard in the back entrance. Going to a neighbor's place it wasn't unusual to see a rifle leaning up against the wall near their back door. Securing a rifle meant putting it in an unlocked cupboard with the shells on a shelf just above the rifles. Maybe it was coincidence but I don't recall one home burglary.

I asked because some JPP righties claim that if you post about gun use you must be anti-gun.

The key wordage here being "used to have". :palm:

As the rain poured in a small neighborhood, a gunshot rang out.

Moments before, state police arrived at the three-bedroom house.

As his partner circled around the back, a state trooper entered the front of the house.

The trooper was suddenly confronted by a man with a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle.

The man struck the trooper with the weapon.

The trooper fired, and the confrontation ended as violently as it began, with the death of the suspect...

An officer has been placed on administrative leave after school officials say his gun discharged inside a north-side middle school on Wednesday morning.

Northside ISD spokesperson Pascual Gonzalez said the officer was inside his office at Jordan Middle School when the gun accidentally fired around 8:45 a.m.

The office door was closed, Gonzales said, and no students reported hearing the shot.

I hate it when firearms just 'go off'. had it been a non law enforcement office, i'm sure we'd hear the story about cleaning the gun or playing with it.

What a Barney moment.

Would you rather he drove into a crowd of people with a truck?

Tossed a woman down a stairwell?

Poisoned children at a birthday party with Decon?

Would you have trucks, stairwells and pest control substances outlawed?

If you did, would it really stop a person determined to cause havoc from doing so?

You imply that somehow the GUN is the problem, it is not.

Courageous homeowner stands his ground

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were wounded in an apparent accidental shooting Wednesday morning on the city's South Side.

Police said that a homeowner called 911 at 6:15 a.m. to report a shooting at a home in the 600 block of Kopplow Place.

The woman told police that her daughter's boyfriend had shot himself and her daughter in the leg while he was investigating a potential intruder in the home.

"Basically, the male stated he thought there was an intruder in the house. While he was looking for the intruder, or in his room, the gun accidently went off," Sgt. Bobby Bradley said.

Bradley said the gun went off while the couple was in bed.

The victims were taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Neighbors, who didn’t want to be identified, said the shooting was not a complete shock.

They described the man involved as “not well” and “paranoid.”

One neighbor said the man was recently in his backyard with a gun, searching for an intruder.

The neighbor said no one was there.

Police said there was also no evidence that there ever was an intruder this morning...

Two Arizona men are dead following a Friday morning shooting that awoke much of the neighborhood in a quiet residential area of Cape Girardeau.

Police are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

Several units from the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to a house at 1129 Landgraf Drive shortly after 3 a.m. and found the bodies of Joshua Adams, 31, and Richard M. Carrube, 23, lying in the driveway.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton identified the men, who were co-workers, Friday afternoon.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Selzer said investigators believe an argument between the two prompted Adams to shoot Carrube multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
