Castro Resigns!!!

No, But just as it was a day to celebrate when Hitler killed himself, toast just once to honor the end of the tyrant who put nuclear missile 90 miles off our shore. I think his brother is much weaker and there is no telling where this will end up.

Ohh Contrare my friend. His brother is much stronger, thats why he will be able to press some democratic reforms.

He isn't going for Democratic Reforms. He has run the military all this time and used it to make himself personally rich.

Shoot the USSR pumped the equivalent of 8 Marhall Plans into that tiny Island and those people still have living conditions on par with that massive powerhouse Haiti. That money went somewhere and it wasn't to those people.

Not for long, all you communists will die by a 500lb bunker buster, or isolated, poor, and erratic.

Hmmm .. let's examine that

Castro has been around for more than 50 years .. outlasting and outliving a whole bunch of US Presidents.

The whole of Latin America has taken a sharp turn to the left and seemingly, not dependant on the US for favors.

Speaking of "isolated" .. how about we discuss the prsent state of conservatism in America.

What else you got?

Hey Black, check out Latin America's economic standing in 1900 in regards to countries like the U.S. and the U.K. and its standing in 2000. Latin America has fallen far behind and that can be attributed to the left turn you speak of and the multiple failures of economic populism.

Spoken like a true capitalist. Everything is measured by money.

Check out the rise in education, healthcare, and opportunity for all citizens that is happening in Venezuela and Bolivia.

Given the tedious and fragile nature of the economy in your own backyard .. which has forced this country into ownership by the Chinese .. I suggest a slow stroll by the mirror my brother.

Pray OPEC doesn't convert to the euro.

A capitalist, that's one of the nicer things I've been called here recently. My thanks. :)

Actually capitalism does lead to a rise in standard of living and opportunities for people which is why I am such a big fan.

Interesting you mention Venezuela. I met this girl last week who staying on the same floor as me for a short period of time. Turns out she's from Venezuela and she is very beautiful. I've never been to Venezuela but I understand there are many beautiful women there but I digress. I was very interested in asking this girl about her home and Chavez but didn't want to bring politics into as I thought we were getting along very well and wasn't going to risk that by bringing up some political b.s.

Anyhow this girl brought up Chavez during our conversation about how some guy who she talked to in the U.S. mentioned how great Chavez is and she told she spent 30 minutes telling him why Chavez isn't great. She is just one person and just one opinion but she said Chavez is leading the country down the wrong path and the results will show.

I don't deny that your beautiful friend may have problems with Chavez .. but there are milions more who wildly support him .. just as there are some wjo don't support Castro, there are millions who do .. just as there are some who support Bush, there are millions who do not. It's the nature of governance.

However, the standard of living for most Venzuelans has risen dramatically and Chavez has provided free education to all Venezuelans, opening the doors for greater opportunity. He has turned his nations resources inward, not just into the pockets of a few.

I believe the best economic and philosophical ideas and policies are to be found somwhere between socialism and capitalism .. just as economies thrive best in mixed markets.

Just as here in the US where millions of Americans, MOST Americans, are looking forward to universal healthcare .. unthinkable in the past.

Is that why they are having food shortages in Venezuela? Despite their country's number one commodity being sold at record levels?
