Castro Resigns!!!

Is that why they are having food shortages in Venezuela? Despite their country's number one commodity being sold at record levels?

Venezuela has always had food shortages .. this one is less severe than many have been .. plus, people have more resources .. they buy more food.

It is a problem, but one with a long history.

ok, true... Venezuela has had a problem in the past with shortages. But how do you explain the continuance? They have never had the resources they currently are receiving due to the high oil prices. yet they are still unable to import the food they need? Why?

We are not talking about people just consuming more and thus the shortage. We are talking about the lack of ANY of certain base foods.

No, that's because of corruption. However we aren't supposed to care about it, or even follow it. We can't learn from a bad example, we have to just ignore it and hear speeches about what a wonderful human he is, because anything short of that is "irresponsibly messing around with another nation's government".

What we should have done, as we used to, is just give him a ton of weapons to kill people with. That would have made it so he loved us.

Chavez and Venezuela will be facing many troubles when oil prices drop because that's how Chavez has been able to skate by so far without financial ruin.

My bad. Thank you for pointing out my glaring error. I stand corrected. As a warmonger, I am ashamed I did not think of that.

Oil prices will not be dropping any time soon. Not until a viable alternative is available. It may fluctuate back down to the $85 range, but there is too much pressure on commodities to see it go lower than that. Especially given the amount of dollars the Fed is pumping into the system. (which as you know deflates the value of the dollar and inflates the price of oil relative to the dollar)

Hey Black, check out Latin America's economic standing in 1900 in regards to countries like the U.S. and the U.K. and its standing in 2000. Latin America has fallen far behind and that can be attributed to the left turn you speak of and the multiple failures of economic populism.

I have never met someone from Venezuela that is happy with Chavez-- usually they talk about how the socialist nature of the country does not make up for the corruption; in fact, it tends to make things worse.
