The Bronze Age was a violent world. The literature of the Bronze Age reflects that. Trying to impose your 21st century standards of leisure and sloth to ancient times is just the absolute worst way to do historical and cultural analysis.

The left in America certainly doesnt agree with Marx here.

Nietzsche clearly has no accurate understanding of Christianity and specifically Catholicism as self mastery is the path to sanctification. These folks hate religion because it competes with the govt for peoples loyalties. The self mastery comment is smome.and mirrors.

It appears this last guy was too busy with the laundry to really think about this.

Clearly the socialist European left in the 19th tended to agree with Marx. They certainly agreed that mind numbing monotonous 12 hour shifts doing repetitive tasks for a pittance wage alienated them from the freedom to use their labor and creative energies to do something more fulfilling with life.

If they did it wasnt because they cared about freedom or "creative energies" it was purely economic.

I never made that claim. I said freedom wasn't the reason for Marx opinion economics was. He imagined workers were not getting their "fair share", I doubt he cared much about their freedom.

Right, just ask a homeless person if economics has absolutely nothing, nada, zilch to do with personal freedom

Marx, like all important thinkers, most definitely thought both about the problem (exploitation) and the reason and goal for solving that problem (freedom to use your own labor in productive, creative, and personally fulfilling ways)
