Duplication of effort means duplication of expense. Almost all the cost of these chips is the startup cost, the rest is basically just a little sand. That means if we have 100 duplicate chip centers, the chips cost 100 times as much.

I am not completely against duplicate effort, but we should not pretend it does not come without major costs. And it will take time. We will need to spend billions of dollars and years of education, before we can even really start.

Cost cutting and efficiency is not the point of life.

Sometimes other things are more important, like maintaining autonomy, freedom, and a middle class.
