Trump owns the racist vote. He was saying what they wanted to hear. He is a petulant bully with no redeeming qualities. But his followers do care as long as he hates the same people they do.
Trump is not expanding his base. He is creating a feeding frenzy in his solid group of moronic haters. But they are in a minority, so they will cheat again. They will try to prevent potential Dems from voting at the polls. hey will try and intimidate voters in Dem districts.

The courts agreed and forced the Republicans to STOP by constantly policing all their attempts to keep voters from voting

It was the ONLY WAY that republicans could win elections
