We are lightyears past any idea of reasonable spending and because we are considering massively more with inflation already spinning up. This effect puts us in the very real thrat of being incapable of meeting our debt service. This ia due to decades of tricks which had us not realy managing out debt but accounting tricks.

We have kicked the can as far down the road as possible and the so-called arbitrary number you cite basically takes us to the very edge of the cliff of default.

You can mock and deride Manchin but he is the one accepting reality here.
