My fair share

You would be surprized little guy
Not really. Since I started paying taxes, (1965) approximately 9 trillion tax dollars have gone into various social assistance (welfare) programs.

I object to about half of the cost of those programs. (ie: some programs I am fine with. Others I am not.)

The Iraq War has cost about 600 billion so far.
http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/10/news/economy/costofwar.fortune/index.htm

The taxes spent each year on social assistance programs I believe to be harmful and wasteful not only exceed the 100 billion per year Iraq has been costing us, but will continue LONG after Iraq is nothing more than an unpleasant memory.

Hell, food stamps alone cost $30 billion per year. And there are significantly more assistance programs going on than food stamps.

To be fair, the programs I object to specifically are cash payments (except a reasonable period of unemployment benefits, which are paid by unemployment insurance, not tax dollars.), food stamps (cash equivalent) and housing assistance programs. I have explained in other threads why I object to them. The cost of those programs top expenditures on the Iraq War by almost 50%

So? If you take the $8k (or whatever the number is) that the government pays for a kid to attend public school and send it to the school of choice.... then that parents tax dollars are going to the educational system they prefer. Would you prefer the same old no-bid contract our public school system has had in place for decades?

Point well taken. My public school spends over $12k per student in grammar schools, nearly $16k this year in high school. Tuition in nearby religious, private gifted range from $4k-$10k. The private high schools go up to $14k, so the public schools would still take a few thou per kid.

Then again, the state/fed have decided that the schools are the place to fund student aged disabled and test them via no child left behind. Seriously, the system is screwed.

so how would poor kids get to a private voucher school ?
remember the poor underachievers are one reson for vouchers.

first of all not all voucher users go to private school. People can use them to go to public school as well. How do poor kids get to public school? I applaud your effort to try to find some side bogeyman however.

Do voucher schools provide bus service ?

I don't know how that's decided. I teach in parochial school and the kids qualify for bus service. If they live over a mile and don't utilize, the parents get a portion back. It seems here that the cost of bus transportation for schools is built into our taxes, not into the school budgets.

Trust me, many private schools already have plenty of underachievers, poor, rich and middle class.

I think the bus rides is a local state decision.

That state is going to decide what bus routes are in your city? Yeah, I'd love to see the state of California try and tell San Francisco where to put its bus routes. You would see the biggest F-You ever.

There is no correlation with bus routes and school choice. Start a thread on bus routes if you are that into the nitty gritty on how they work.

Now Im wondering if someone else should have to pay MY share of the cost of the Iraqi war.

It was done against my will, it has been a disastor.

I hear conservatives saying that things like our schooling here in the US is a disastor and they want their money back so they can send their kids to a private school.

This war has been a disastor and I want my money back so I can send a soldier to therapy that they are not getting from the military.

Good God...Please...please get yourself some therapy first....

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I want it back to buy training or schooling for our soldiers. I want it back to replace the equipment worn to shreds by this war. I Want My Money Back.

Which of you people should be forced to pay my share back to me?

You know desh, the really sick and twisted thing is that WE aren't paying for Bush's war. The chinese and others are.

And it's our grandkids who are going to pay for it.

That's fiscal responsibility, John McCain style.

Well I should have put a slash (/) between local state I suppose. But local state seemed clear enough to me. but then CA is a non local state to me and KY is a local state if you want to be picky.
