[h=1]3 students accused of rape on Terry Parker campus[/h]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three Terry Parker High School students are accused of luring a female student into the field house and sexually assaulting her last Thursday, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.


The victim, who is identified as a female between ages 12 and 16, said one of the suspects approached her after lunch and invited her to the field house. A second, then third suspect joined them on the way. Once inside, she said one of the boys began to touch her and said "get ready," then all three of them forced her to perform sex acts.


The girl told a teacher immediately after the assault, and that woman called the principal and School Board police. The victim was given a forensic medical examination.
Police detained Nicholas Evans, 18, and Nicholas Oliver, 17, at the school on Thursday. The third suspect, Lavell Benjamin, had already left for the day and could not be located.

Evans and Oliver were booked Thursday on charges of Lewd and lascivious battery and encouraging a person under 16 to engage in sexual activity. Evans is also charged with producing computer pornography.


Benjamin, 19, came in for questioning Monday, accompanied by his mother and a lawyer. He was questioned, then arrested.


News4Jax has confirmed that Evans and Oliver played on the Terry Parker Braves football team last fall.

Students at Terry Parker told News4Jax that they are shocked after learning three classmates are now in jail, accused of gang-raping a female student on campus.

"I think that it's kind of shocking and it's a little upsetting to know that something like that goes on so close to where we come to school. And it's supposed to be a safe place," said sophomore Nicole.

Some students were not as surprised. "I've heard of things like that happening. Not usually in the field house but sometimes," said sophomore Andrew.
The incident has even taught a lesson to other students. "Because you have to be careful who you hang out with, who you associate with, because what they may seem like to you may not be who they really are. If someone can do something like that to another person, who's to say what else they could do," said Nicole.

[h=3]Mother of accused teen speaks out (Dindu Nuffin)[/h] Maria Tomlin, the mother of Evans, told News4Jax that her son is not a rapist. She describes him as a smart kid who has been accepted to three colleges.
"My kid is a straight A student, who is going to college, that got accepted to three different colleges. Nobody says that. And (he) works two jobs and does everything he can to help somebody," Tomlin said.

    Jason Isaac Herman Hines was sentenced to 50 years in prison in Thursday, April 14, after being found guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The victim of the sexual assault was Hine's own four-year-old daughter,
    
    Due to the age of the victim, Hines will have no possibility for parole.
    
    Hines, a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma,visited his children and their mother in Round Rock on November 22, 2013 and video-recorded himself aggressively simulating sex against the victim while her mother was away at work. The victim complained of pain later that day, and her mother took her to the hospital after Hines returned to Tulsa two days later.
    
    Hospital staff called the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and Hines was arrested in Tulsa a week later.
    
    Assistant District Attorneys Jo Poenitzsch and Blake Ewing presented the video evidence of the assault in court.
    
    The victim's mother had found the camera in the defendant's Tulsa apartment shortly after the assault, and detectives at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office recovered the video images Hines had attempted to delete.

[h=1]Fairfax Co. employee arrested in sexual assault of 77-year-old woman[/h]

CENTREVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) – -- A Fairfax County custodian has been arrested for sex crimes against a 77-year-old Centreville woman.


Police say the victim was attacked in her home at the Forest Glen Senior Community in the 14400 block of Woodmere Court on April 5th.

Fairfax County Police say through old fashioned investigative work they nabbed the accused at 8:30 p.m April 14th at the recreation facility where he worked.


Twenty-eight year-old Malcolm Raheem Hall was fired on Friday from his part-time Fairfax County Government job as a seasonal maintenance worker and custodian at Cub Run RECenter in Chantilly.


A coach who comes to the rec center says, "That scares the heck out of me. Kids go get dressed here come out on deck here. Wow, I don't know what to say."


Hall was terminated a day after being charged with attempted rape, sodomy and other sex crimes against the 77-year-old woman at the Forest Glen Senior Complex.


Police say he entered the woman's apartment through an unlocked front door, had a conversation with her and then allegedly sexually assaulted her. Police say he stole cash before leaving.


Fairfax County Police increased patrols and handed out flyers. Investigators say the two do not know each other, but Hall lives and works in the area. The rec center is only a couple of miles away.


Police say they were in the process of developing a sketch when a new lead came in and were able to arrest Hall. Investigators won't go into detail on what exactly connected Hall to the alleged crime. Hall is being held without bond.

A Florida father-of-two stabbed and ran over his estranged wife, shot dead their children before turning the gun on himself in a horrific murder-suicide.
Henry Ramone Brown, 30, had hidden in the trunk of his wife's car which was parked outside a Sanford Chili’s, in Lake Mary, armed with a knife. When Chericia Brown, 31, returned to her car at around 10pm on Sunday, her husband jumped out and stabbed her multiple times, according to police reports.

Brown attempted to hide the seriously injured Chericia by dragging her into the bushes and ran round the building to retrieve his car, Click Orlando report. But two medical professionals, who had been dining at the restaurant, had discovered the victim and were attempting to help her when Brown returned. The suspect drove round the building and ran over his wife, and the two diners attempting to help her. All three were rushed to a local hospital where Chericia Brown was pronounced dead.

One of medical professionals is still in hospital in a 'stable condition' while the other has since been released.

Henry Brown fled the scene and police say he swapped vehicles before driving to pick up his two children, aged one and four, from a babysitter in Altamonte Springs. The 30-year-old, who was armed with a gun, then drove to Central Florida Regional Hospital where his wife had been transported after his attack. He arrived at around 12.20am, in an attempt to find Chericia, but was swiftly recognized by police.

Brown opened fire on officers, and hospital security staff, and managed to escape back to his Ford pick-up truck. But police gave chase and were able to track down Brown on Interstate 4, using 'stop sticks' to disable the vehicle. When deputies approached the truck, they found the suspect had shot dead his two young children inside the car, before turning the gun on himself. The Sheriff’s Office could not confirm if the father had murdered his children before he arrived at the hospital or afterwards.

The investigation is ongoing.

[h=1]1 dead, 4 wounded when gunfire erupts during rap video shoot[/h]

CHICAGO -- One person is dead and four others injured after being shot at a park on the city's South Side.

Shots rang out overnight at Foster Park in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. One person was found dead at the scene. Relatives identified the man killed as Damond Dawson, 23, an aspiring rapper known as "Thugga" who was part of the group but not taking part in the video.


Police say Dawson was shot in the back of the head.


Several others are now being treated at Christ Medical Center. Police are searching for suspects in the shooting.


Police said the victims were filming a rap video when the unknown offenders fired shots and fled. The artist filming the video, ForeignLyfe, said they were producing a party scene. The camera was rolling at the time of the shooting, but it was not pointed at the gunmen. Police have taken the production camera as well as the footage. The song being filmed is called "2 techs and a 50 shot."

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Before he was known as an accused serial killer facing the death penalty in the deaths of three women, Michael Madison was known as the "weed man" who sold marijuana to many people in his East Cleveland neighborhood.


Three of his neighbors testified Monday at Madison's capital murder trial during the first day of what could be a month of testimony.


Madison is accused of killing three women and stuffing their bodies in trash bags that were later found when a cable company worker noticed a foul smell coming from a garage next to Madison's apartment.


Kim Henderson lived in the apartment next to Madison and shared the garage where 18-year-old Shirellda Terry's body was found in July 2013. When asked when she knew what Madison, who she called Ivan, did for a living, Henderson said, "He was the weed man."


Madison lived with his children and their mother when he first rented the apartment. The mother and child eventually moved out, and in the months following, several women moved in and out of the apartment, Henderson recalled.


"There was a steady stream of people going into the apartment," she testified. Madison met the three women whose deaths are at the center of the case at over the course of a year before his arrest, prosecutors said. Terry, who went missing last, was the first body found in Madison's garage on July 19, 2013.

The bodies of the two other victims, 28-year-old Shetisha Sheeley and 38-year-old Angela Deskins, were found nearby a day later.


Henderson said she swept the garage a week before Terry's body was discovered and moved several crates of her albums and other personal items there. She told the jury that she and her neighbors thought the smell coming from the garage was the result of a sewer problem. The smell worsened over several summer days until you could smell it outside the front of the building on Shaw Avenue, Henderson said.






Prosecutors spent extensive time describing the condition accused serial killer Michael Madison left the bodies of three women in 2013, while the defense described Madison as having lived a "tormented life," clouded by drugs and alcohol in a way that prevented him from contemplating the murders.



Shaeaun Childs, who worked at the cable company on the first floor, also told the jury he knew Madison sold marijuana from his upstairs apartment. Childs said he realized the smell was coming from the garage when he went to pick up equipment in the garage next door. He later saw flies coming through a hole in the wall and called East Cleveland police.

[h=1]James Dixon gets 12 years behind bars for beating transgender woman to death[/h]

James Dixon was sentenced to a dozen years behind bars Tuesday as the mother and sister of the slain young woman blasted the outcome. Dixon, 25, pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month on the eve of his trial in exchange for the lenient deal that was offered to him by a Manhattan judge. But the family of Islan Nettles, who was beaten to death on the street in Harlem by Dixon in 2013, got no satisfaction.


Nettles' mother Delores Nettles ripped Dixon for his heartless crime that ruined her life and robbed her child of her promising future. "I had the best of both worlds — I had a son and a daughter so I got to share that experience," she said. "But as far as James Dixon — I will hate you. I will hate you for the rest of my life for taking something that belonged to me," she fumed. Nettles said her daughter was "beat so bad she had to have brain surgery as soon as she went in."
"How do you sleep at night? How do you rest?" the anguished mom asked. "I can't rest." "I hope you die," she went on. "I hope you rot!”

The victim's sister Sky Nettles was so upset she could barely speak. "For him to only get 12 years — that’s not right," said the 19-year-old sibling. "He should have thought about what he did before all of this got this serious." Sky Nettles, speaking in front of friends, family and trans activists who packed the courtroom, said the death of her sister was traumatizing to her and her younger siblings. She described the terrifying sight of her disfigured sister in a hospital bed. "My sister couldn't even speak. She didn't look like herself," the tearful young woman said. "She looked like a monster."


The plea deal was offered by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Robert Stolz, although the Manhattan District Attorney's office recommended he do 17 years in exchange for a guilt admission. Dixon would have faced a sentencing range of five to 25 years behind bars if he'd been convicted at trial.

He said in a taped confession that he attacked Nettles because his "manhood' was threatened when he hit on her, not realizing she was transgender. "I just didn't want to be fooled," he said dryly in the recorded interview. Dixon exhibited no remorse at the emotional court proceeding Tuesday.


He looked away from Nettles’ relatives when they poured their hearts out in front of a packed courtroom and he declined to speak or apologize to them when offered the chance.

More than 1,000 people shot in Chicago this year



The number of people shot in Chicago this year passed 1,000 this week, a grim milestone as gun violence in the city continues at a pace not seen since the 1990s.


The city reached the 1,000 mark on Wednesday, when 13 people were shot over 14 hours, including a 4-year-old boy hit in the foot as he walked with his mother in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. Another boy, 6, was cut on the finger during the same incident, according to police.


In recent years, Chicago hasn't reached 1,000 shooting victims until June. Last year, Chicago recorded its 1,000th person shot on June 4, Tribune data show. In 2013, the city hit that mark on June 26, and the year before that, June 9.


This year's toll is more than 66 percent higher than the same time last year, according to Tribune data.

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. --A woman who set her newborn on fire and left her in the middle of a New Jersey street has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in February to aggravated manslaughter.


Authorities say the 23-year-old Pemberton Township woman doused her newborn with accelerant and set her on fire in January 2015. The baby had third-degree burns over 60 percent of her body. She died two hours after she was flown to a Philadelphia hospital.


Prosecutors had recommended the 30-year sentence. Prosecutors say she hid her pregnancy from her mother and sister. Investigators say the baby was found with her umbilical cord and placenta attached.

Man booked with rape of 8-year-old girl

Authorities arrested a Marrero man accused of raping an 8-year-old girl. James Crawford, 18, of 5816 Rue Racine Drive, Marrero, was booked with first-degree rape, said Glen T. Boyd, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.


Crawford is accused of forcing the girl to perform oral sex, according to authorities. It's not clear when the incident occurred, but the victim revealed the assault to a school counselor in February, Boyd said.


Detectives obtained a warrant for Crawford's arrest March 2. He was transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna Friday (April 8) from Orleans Parish prison, an arrest report said.


No information was available about why Crawford was in custody in New Orleans. Crawford was being held without bond Tuesday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

3 teens charged in murder of Sylvan Hills High School student

SHERWOOD, Ark. - Xavier Porter, 17; Travone Miller, 14; and Quincy Parker, 15 all face charges as adults in the death of 17-year-old Bryan Thompson. Sixth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Larry Jegley confirmed the identities of the teenagers Saturday (4/23).

The trio all face charges of Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery.

SHERWOOD, Ark. - Sherwood police arrested three unnamed juveniles (ages 14, 14 and 17) on Friday in connection with the death of Bryan Thompson, who was found dead on Thursday.

They are expected to be charged as adults, and their identities are being withheld until their arraignment.

SHERWOOD, Ark. - A teenager was found dead around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in a car in just yards away from the Sherwood Police Station.

Jeff Barber and his brother study the Bible right outside the Sherwood Library where Barber works. He spends most of his days in the area that stays busy.

"We have the library, the rec center, the senior citizen center, down there is the police station, and school right behind me," said Barber.

Just feet away, police are still searching for answers to what happened in the Bill Harmon Recreation Center parking lot.

"I see a lot of people everyday, and I don't hear about anything bad happening very often," said Barber.

Students at Sylvan Hills High say Bryan Thompson, 17, was found dead in a car Thursday afternoon.

A makeshift memorial has been set up in a school parking space. It leaves many speechless, even those who didn't know him personally.

"I really don't know what to say. This community is probably one of the safest communities I know of. I've lived here my whole life," said Zach Parkhurst.

As Barber continues to study the Bible, he knows one thing for sure, his heart goes out to those who knew Bryan best.

"You feel for his family. He's in our prayers," said Barber.

Parents face murder charges after toddler, 3, died of pneumonia because she was so severely malnourished and weighed only SEVEN pounds more than two years ago

An autopsy found a three-year-old girl died from pneumonia because she was so severely malnourished – and weighed just seven more pounds than she did two years ago.

Jourdin Smith’s death in December was ruled a homicide by the state’s medical examiner’s office. Her parents, Fort Bragg soldier Octavia Bennett-Smith, 27, and Jamarkus Smith, 26, both of Fayetteville, North Carolina, were charged with first-degree murder on Friday.

The autopsy report said Jourdin likely would have survived if she'd been properly fed and brought in for medical care. It also said the child weighed just seven more pounds than she did when she visited a doctor two years ago. It also noted she had cuts and bruises on most of her body and injuries consistent with sexual abuse.

Her parents were initially charged with felony child abuse after police arrived at their home on December 1 last year and found the girl unresponsive, ABC11 reports.


Smith was also charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory sex offense.


Police are now also investigating the death of another of the couple's children.
The baby reportedly died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in February 2014.

[h=1]7 black teens plead guilty in 'brutal' attack against white Dundalk man[/h]

A brutal attack carried out in Dundalk by a group of seven teenagers and young adults nearly cost 61-year-old Richard Fletcher his life last April, and now the final four of those attackers have pleaded guilty to their roles in the incident.

Investigators say Fletcher saw two girls fighting on top of his car. When he went outside to ask them to stop, dozens of teens turned on him. He suffered broken eye sockets, a broken nose, broken ribs and a brain bleed.

A video of the attack led to seven arrests. Three were charged as juveniles. The other four, aged 16 to 21, went to court as adults. All of them faced attempted murder charges, but took plea deals.


On Wednesday, 18-year-old Samtoya Williams and 16-year-old Mya Stewart both pleaded guilty to first-degree assault. Keenan Hollway and Garry Baker Jr., who are 21 and 17, respectively, did the same on Tuesday.


Williams was sentenced to 10 years in prison while Stewart was sentenced to seven years. On Tuesday, Hollway was sentenced to 15 years. Baker is still awaiting sentencing.

AKRON, Ohio — A former Kent State University professor accused of meeting a teenage boy for sex in an elementary school parking lot is back in police custody, five months after he was stopped at the Canadian border trying to leave the country.

Willie Harrell, 44, was booked in the Summit County Jail about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested March 22 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He waived his extradition hearing the next day and was sent back to Akron April 15, according to Orleans Parish Magistrate Court records.
He is scheduled for a May 2 appearance in front of Summit County Judge Amy Corrigall Jones.

Harrell faces a fifth-degree felony charge of importuning. He is accused of meeting the 15-year-old boy on Aug. 26 in the parking lot of Smith Elementary School. The two met online, police said.

Harrell admitted to police that he met the boy for sex, according to police reports. Harrell had no pretrial supervision conditions as part of his $25,000 bond that he posted two days after his arrest. He left the area after posting bond.

Harrell was stopped trying to cross the border of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, according to court records. Harrell told Canadian authorities that he was trying to leave the country to avoid prosecution in his pending case in Summit County Common Pleas Court, according to a court filing by prosecutors.

Harrell also had a device in his car that blocked GPS location tracking, according to court records. He was released to U.S. Border Patrol agents several hours later.
Harrell then told U.S. authorities that he was moving to Canada for work and that he planned to return to Akron for all his court appearances. Corrigall Jones issued a bench warrant for Harrell's arrest after being notified.

Harrell worked as an associated professor of English at Kent State beginning in 2003, when he made about $42,000 annually. He was fired from the university after his arrest.

Investigators say Fletcher saw two girls fighting on top of his car. When he went outside to ask them to stop, dozens of teens turned on him. He suffered broken eye sockets, a broken nose, broken ribs and a brain bleed.

A video of the attack led to seven arrests. Three were charged as juveniles. The other four, aged 16 to 21, went to court as adults. All of them faced attempted murder charges, but took plea deals.


On Wednesday, 18-year-old Samtoya Williams and 16-year-old Mya Stewart both pleaded guilty to first-degree assault. Keenan Hollway and Garry Baker Jr., who are 21 and 17, respectively, did the same on Tuesday.


Williams was sentenced to 10 years in prison while Stewart was sentenced to seven years. On Tuesday, Hollway was sentenced to 15 years. Baker is still awaiting sentencing.
