Cops: Woman Beat Husband Over Flatulence

Victim was kicked, elbowed for passing gas while in bed

DECEMBER 22--Angered by her husband’s repeated farting in bed, a Florida woman allegedly elbowed, kicked, and scratched her spouse, according to police who arrested her for battery.

dawnmeikle2.jpg

Dawn Meikle, 55, is facing a misdemeanor charge following a 3:20 AM confrontation in the Port St. Lucie home she shares with her husband Donald.

As detailed in a December 11 arrest affidavit, Donald told cops that “while he was lying in bed he passed gas,” which prompted Dawn to begin “elbowing him on his arm.”
When Donald’s flatulence continued, “Dawn began kicking him and eventually kicked him out of their bed,” police noted. Donald said that he eventually returned to bed, where he “passed gas again.” Not surprisingly, “Dawn began elbowing and kicking him again.”

Donald said that he subsequently sought to restrain his wife, who repeatedly scratched him across his chest. Cops reported that Donald had four or five six-inch scratches on his chest, and that his t-shirt was ripped in three places.

During police questioning, Dawn said that she had “asked Donald several times to stop passing gas in their bed.” But when his flatulence persisted, Dawn admitted, she “began elbowing and kicking him.” Dawn suffered a bloody lip in the fracas, but she told police that Donald “was restraining me and somehow my lip got split open.”

Dawn also told cops that while she was in the bathroom calling 911, she “sprayed pepper spray in the air to keep Donald out of the restroom.”

Dawn was booked into the county jail on the battery charge. Free on bond, she is scheduled for a December 28 arraignment on the misdemeanor count.

[h=1]Charlotte Christmas Eve mall shooter ID'd[/h]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities have identified the gunman who was killed by an off-duty officer at a Charlotte mall Thursday as 18-year-old Daquan Antonio Westbrook, CBS affiliate WBTV reported.

DAQUAN%20ANTONIO%20WESTBROOK_1598826-190x290.jpg

At a Thursday night news conference, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police (CMPD) said Westbrook was shot near the entrance of the Journey's shoe store, in the Dick's Sporting Goods side of the Northlake Mall, in gunfire that erupted shortly after 2 p.m.

As last-minute shoppers were picking out their final gifts, witnesses say they heard several shots fired from the lower-level of the mall. CMPD says Thomas Ferguson, an off-duty officer, arrived on scene after hearing the gunfire. Police Chief Kerr Putney said the suspect pointed a gun in the direction of the officer before being shot, WBTV reported.
Witnesses said the fatal shooting followed an argument between two groups of people.

James Elliott saw the incident unfold. "Five guys started fighting, two of them ran out of the store when the third guy came out of the store he pulled out a gun," Elliott told WBTV. "Officer stepped up, said put your gun down, he turned around and opened fire."

Westbrook was pronounced dead by Medic, an area EMS service.

In reference to the argument, Chief Putney says there was an ongoing dispute between the groups, but added there is no indication that the incident was gang related. He said multiple weapons were found at the scene.

Witness told WBTV the station the initial gunfire at the mall was in retaliation for a shooting that happened last week involving the deceased suspect's brother.

[h=1]2 teens accused in Harvey double shooting that killed girl[/h]
romalis-levier-emmett-garrisonjpg-bbeb77b4276e2dff.jpg

Jefferson Parish authorities are booking two teen gunmen in connection with a double shooting Tuesday night in Harvey that left a 15-year-old girl dead and one of the suspects wounded.
After three days of sifting through evidence and conflicting accounts of the event that claimed Shamairie Joseph's life as she watched television with a toddler on her lap, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office investigators said Thursday (Dec. 24) they understood what transpired. The girl was slain by a stray bullet, they said, unleashed when the two armed teens tried settling a dispute by squeezing triggers.

Romalis Levier, 19, was booked Thursday (Dec. 24) with manslaughter in connection with Joseph's death. Detectives do not believe Levier fired first, but said he took a stolen gun to the apartment in the 1600 block of Apache Drive, intent on confronting another teen who previously had shot at a friend of his and had recently threatened his safety. When the other teen shot first, detectives said, Levier returned fire, striking the teen and Joseph.

The other teen gunman, previously described as an unidentified 16-year-old who was shot in the abdomen, was identified Thursday as 17-year-old Emmett Garrison IV. JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato said Thursday that "efforts are currently underway" to have Garrison booked with attempted second-degree murder for opening fire on Levier. Fortunato said Garrison likely will be booked by Orleans Parish authorities while recuperating at University Medical Center and later have his custody transferred to Jefferson Parish.

Fortunato said investigators recovered 19 shell casings believed fired from a 9mm handgun wielded by Garrison, and "several" .22-caliber casings ejected from Levier's weapon. A Ruger .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun believed used by Levier was recovered from a garbage can in the back yard of Levier's home, Fortunato said.

A check of that gun's serial number revealed it had been stolen during an armed robbery in New Orleans earlier this month, Fortunato said. And ballistics tests have determined that the 9mm weapon, which has not been recovered, was used and fired during the commission of two attempted armed robberies and one armed robbery in which a victim was shot, Fortunato said. All three of those incidents occurred on the same night in early December, the JPSO said, but no further details of the crimes were disclosed.

Detectives said Garrison was identified through a photo lineup as the suspect who served as a lookout in at least one of the armed robbery attempts. Fortunato said the ballistics tests link both Garrison and Levier to the armed robberies, and that arrest warrants have been obtained "in all three of these cases."

On Wednesday, deputies booked 22-year-old Bryan Smith with conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice in the case, after detectives arrested him at Levier's home in Harvey. Levier was booked with the same charge, and with hit-and-run after authorities said he crashed into an SUV while fleeing the shooting scene.

Joseph, a student at West Jefferson High School, died a short time after being struck in the chest by a single gunshot, authorities said. The toddler on her lap was not injured.

Levier and Smith are jailed at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.

Woman Shoots, Kills Home Invasion Suspect in Trotwood

TROTWOOD -- A home invasion turns deadly when the homeowner takes the safety of her family into her own hands.

One of three home invasion suspect was shot and killed during the incident, and has been identified by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office as Azikiwe Presley, 29, of Dayton. Trotwood Police were called to a home at the dead end of Atlas Road around 6:00 Monday morning.

Police tell FOX 45 three masked men armed with firearms forcibly entered and attempted to rob the homeowner. "Any time you have a homicide or a home invasion of this magnitude it's unusual unless they're looking for something specific," said Trotwood Police Capt. John Porter.

Porter said the homeowner called 9-1-1.
"I got my gun and I started shooting and they ran," the female caller told dispatchers. "They all three had guns, I'm confused ... they must not have had bullets because after I pulled the trigger they just took off, instead of firing back. I don't know if I hit one or not, I don't see blood anywhere."

The three suspects were caught on home surveillance outside the residence, before they kicked their way inside.

Police say two kids were asleep inside the home in the room where the invaders kicked their way in. "Most of them woke up to the sound of them forcing entry into the home they kicked the back door," said Capt. Porter.
The suspects headed straight for the female who called 9-1-1.

"He hit me in the head with the gun 'cause I was in the laundry room," the caller stated. The victim told Trotwood Police the suspects then demanded she lead them to "the money," and that she complied, leading them into a back room where a safe was located and two other kids were sleeping.

Trotwood Police said two of the suspects tried to steal a safe, while the third held the victim and two kids at gunpoint. They say the homeowner was able to get away and grab a gun she had hidden in the room, then started firing shots at the suspects. "I got my gun and I started shooting and they ran!" the homeowner told dispatchers.

One suspect was killed by the gunfire, and was later found outside by Trotwood Police. Police say the deceased is a male in his 20s from the Dayton area, and that he was in the yard between the victim's home and another house, still armed with a TEC 9 submachine gun. Two suspects got away, and police are still looking for them. The victim told police she did not know what kind of vehicle the suspects left in, because it was not parked in view of her home.

Trotwood Police spent Monday evening questioning neighbors on nearby Glen Helen Road if they had any information about the invasion.

[h=1]Pomona man charged with burning to death the mother of his children on Christmas Day[/h]
550x309

A Pomona man was charged with murder Tuesday after prosecutors said he burned to death the mother of his children on Christmas Day.

Clarence Duwell Dear, 51, could face the death penalty if convicted in the torture and murder of 41-year-old Dawn Hensley, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Dear and Hensley were involved in an argument that turned physical at about 1:45 p.m. at their Cordona Street home, Pomona police said.

Dear chased Hensley outside, doused her in gasoline and then set her on fire, possibly with a lighted cigarette, investigators said. Prosecutors would not say exactly how Dear set the woman aflame.

Hensley was seen running from the home while on fire and collapsed in the street, where neighbors tried to help her. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time later.

Dear was arrested without incident on Sunday, after he was spotted boarding a bus in Altadena. He was charged with murder with a special circumstance of torture, making him eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors have not said if they will seek to have Dear executed.

Dear was also charged with one count of cruelty to a child, in connection with endangering the health of his 12-year-old son, according to court records. Prosecutors do not believe Dear was attempting to harm the child, but the cruelty charge stems from the danger created by the fire, according to Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

Dear was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his arraignment was delayed until Jan. 28. He is being held without bail, Robison said.

[h=1]Pregnant woman attacked by group of women, shot in Orlando[/h]
pregnant30n-3-web.jpg

A six-months pregnant woman in Florida was shot after being threatened by a group of women with bats, machetes and a chain with a lock on Monday night.

Prior to the shooting, the victim said that 31-year-old Latoya Jackson, who police are searching for, sent her messages on Facebook, including one that claimed Jackson was "having sex with the father of (her) child,” according to The Orlando Sentinel.

The victim was found by police with non-life threatening gunshot wounds to her back and left arm. Four shots were fired at her from a four-door gray vehicle while she was walking home, and witnesses claim Jackson pulled the trigger.

"(A witness) observed Jackson, still wearing the black tank top, in the back seat hanging half her upper body out the open window," the Orlando Sentinel reported.

"While Jackson was hanging out the window she was shooting a gun toward (the victim)... During this shooting (the witness) observed Jackson’s face and the muzzle fire from the gun in her hand.”

Earlier on Monday, the victim was confronted by three women, including Jackson, wielding blunt objects such as bats, machetes and a chain with a lock, outside a liquor store, witnesses told police.

"During these threats Jackson stated (that) 'I'm going to beat that baby out your [EXPLETIVE] and go [EXPLETIVE] your baby daddy' and threatened to kill the unborn baby," the Orlando Sentinel reported.

She left the store and was shot shortly afterwards.

The victim was able to identify Jackson as her attacker from a lineup of photographs, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Jackson, who was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and attempted murder, has multiple prior arrests. She was apprehended on drug charges twice in 2002 and three times in both 2005 and 2007, and has also been arrested for larceny, contempt of court and probation violations.

Three Young Black Women Accused of Beating 51-Year-Old White Man to Death

Homeless-Killers-Philadelphia-Police-640x480.jpg

Next week, three young black women will stand before a Philadelphia judge for savagely beating a homeless white man to death with a hammer and a chair leg last April, all because the 10-year-old son of one of the women lied and said the homeless man struck him.

Not only did the women participate in the murder; they brought three children age 12, 13, and 14, to aid them in their savagery.

After Aleathea Gillard’s ten-year-old son, who pumped gas for tips at a Sunoco station, came home late one day, having fallen off his bicycle, he lied to his mother and told her the injury was caused by a blow from Robert Barnes, 51, the homeless man who also pumped gas for tips at the station. On April 7, Gillard, Shareena Joachim, and Kaisha Duggins, accompanied by the young teenagers, returned to the gas station to take their revenge.

Video from a surveillance camera reveals a minivan entering the gas station parking lot, and the three adults and three teenagers assaulting Robert Barnes just outside the door of the convenience store. According to police, Duggins bludgeoned Barnes with a hammer, causing him to fall on the ground; Gillard followed by beating him savagely with a chair leg. Joachim tried to pepper-spray him but accidentally sprayed Gillard’s 13-year-old son, prompting the group, some spattered with blood, to flee to a hospital emergency room after they made their getaway. They were arrested there.

Diane Barnes, Robert’s sister, told the Daily Beast that she recognized the victim when video of the attack was shown on TV because her brother was wearing boots she had given him. She stated that her brother was still conscious when paramedics arrived:
He told the ambulance driver that he was just jumped by five black girls and beat with a hammer, so he knew what happened to him. And then when he was brought to the hospital that’s when he fell unconscious from bleeding on the brain. At that time they raced him into surgery and removed a great portion of his skull to alleviate the pressure, and of course when I went in to see him, I just lost it.

Barnes lay in a medically-induced coma at Einstein Medical Center for 18 days, dying on April 25.

In June, the three teenagers pled guilty to charges of aggravated assault and conspiracy, in exchange for the DA’s dismissing attempted murder charges. But the DA has stated that homicide charges are now also probable for the teens.
Monsignor Kevin Lawrence, who officiated at Barnes’ funeral, said, “When he did have an apartment, he was always quick to open the door to people who had greater needs.”

Robert Barnes’ mother Roseann asked, “How could you possibly do something like this, instead of asking for the truth? I knew from the beginning that he didn’t hit that kid. He’s never hurt anyone.”

Barnes, an alcoholic, had a reputation for mouthing off, according to his family, but never violence. Diane Barnes said:
When he drank he could be mouthy, but he was harmless. He would never hurt anybody, he would never hurt a child, he just ran his mouth sometimes. I don’t know whether he said something they didn’t like, maybe he urinated on their property, he did a lot of that over there, you know. I don’t know… they only lived a block away. You could tell they went there with a lot of anger inside them. They just didn’t give a shit, these people, I mean, it’s obvious. The cameras were right in their view and they didn’t care.

She added:
I want this mother that did this, I want her to get the death penalty. I really do, I just think it’s terrible what she did, she brought all those people down with her, she initiated it all. And you know, she went there equipped with everything she needed to do this. She knew my brother, she knew him well, they all knew my brother.

[h=1]Fight breaks out at Newark anti-violence rally[/h]

A skirmish broke out between rival activists on the steps of City Hall Wednesday during what had been intended as a demonstration against violence in Newark.

Police were called to the scene after a small crowd began arguing over escalating violence and the city's attempts to curb it.

The noon press conference was called by a group of activists led by Salaam Ismial, co-chair of the New Jersey Study Commission on Violence, and Abdul Muhammad, a longtime Newark anti-violence activist. In a release announcing the event, the two said they planned to ask Mayor Ras Baraka to "unleash his quality of life plan in addressing ongoing violence facing Newark residents."

As the group spoke to reporters, however, a group of Baraka supporters including activist Donna Jackson and Tyrone "Street Counsel" Barnes began heckling and shouting from the base of the steps.

It soon evolved into an intense face-off between Jackson and Muhammad, which then erupted into a skirmish between members of the two camps. At one point, Barnes put his hands around Muhammad's neck and pushed him to the ground.

Organizers and other participants said the skirmish lasted only a few minutes, and there were no serious injuries.

"For all intents and purposes, this hurt the possibility that Newark can have in addressing this problem once and for all. Until there's some sense of a unified front among the leaders, there's never going to be an impact on the people at large."
Though the rally took place outside City Hall, Newark spokeswoman Marjorie Harris said the city was not directly involved in the rally or the disturbance.

"It was simply a community coalition," she said. "None of the city's employees...were involved with it."

[h=1]Wrong-way driver dead after steep drop as he ran from crash[/h]
A 30-year-old St. Paul man was found dead Sunday after he apparently jumped a guardrail and fell 40 feet while running from a crash in St. Paul, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

St. Paul police found the man about 11 a.m. Sunday on the University of Minnesota transit road under Minnesota 280. The crash had occurred more than eight hours earlier and a quarter-mile away, seriously injuring another driver, the State Patrol said.

AbdiOlani_0.jpg

The man killed was Abdi Olani, who was completing his electrical engineering degree at the University of Minnesota, said Oda Abdissa, a friend of his for years. He said people in his community are shocked by what happened.

The State Patrol said alcohol was detected in the body of the driver who died; his identity hasn’t officially been released. Abdissa said he saw his friend at a fundraising concert before the crash but didn’t see him “have one drink.”

The driver of the other car suffered two broken arms and a broken leg and underwent surgery, said Samir Addoun, whose brother was a passenger in the car and also was injured.

The crash happened about 2:20 a.m. Sunday. A Hyundai Elantra was heading north on the highway as a Nissan Altima approached it heading the wrong way near University Avenue, the State Patrol said. Mohamed Elhor, who Addoun said was driving the Elantra, told him the Altima’s driver “was going very fast and drove head-on into them.” The State Patrol said the Elantra’s driver is a 35-year-old from New Brighton.

“He wanted to avoid him, but my friend didn’t have enough reaction time,” Addoun said, adding that Elhor tried to swerve to the right. The collision caused his car to flip.

Addoun’s brother, 24-year-old Abou Addoun of Mounds View, broke his shoulder and needed surgery to put a plate in his arm, he said. Another passenger in the Elantra and two in the Altima suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to the State Patrol. The Altima’s driver fled before law enforcement arrived. Troopers and officers searched but did not find the driver, said Lt. Tiffani Nielson, State Patrol spokeswoman. Later in the morning, bicyclists reported they found a man’s body under the highway, according to St. Paul police.

The clothing description for the driver who fled matched the clothes on the man whose body was found, and “our dispatchers helped connect the dots,” Nielson said. It’s not known whether the man was aware how steep the drop was when he jumped, she said.
