New earthquake, magnitude 6.1, shakes jittery Mexico

MEXICO CITY — A strong, new earthquake shook Mexico on Saturday, toppling already damaged homes and a highway bridge and causing new alarm in a country reeling from two even more powerful quakes this month that together have killed nearly 400 people.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the new, magnitude 6.1 temblor was centered about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south-southeast of Matias Romero in the state of Oaxaca, which was the region most battered by a magnitude 8.1 quake on Sept. 7. It was among thousands of aftershocks recorded in the wake of that earlier quake, which was the most powerful to hit Mexico in 32 years and killed at least 90 people.

Magnitude 5.7 quake hits off northern California -USGS

AAsmkyN.img

Sept 22 (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck on Friday off the coast of Northern California in the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, but there were no reports of damage or injury.

It was quickly followed by a second quake of 5.6 closer to shore, the USGS said. The larger temblor was initially reported by the agency as magnitude 5.8.

Both quakes struck west of the California town of Petrolia and were very shallow, amplifying their effects, but a USGS map showed that they were not widely felt along the coast.

The Office of Emergency Services for Humboldt County, California said there were no initial reports of injuries or damage from the quake.

Magnitude 5 quakes and above are not uncommon in seismically active California. They are considered moderate and capable of causing considerable damage if they hit a heavily populated area directly.

But rarely do they cause problems when they strike offshore from the sparsely populated Mendocino coast.

Another excellent presentation regarding this date is found here. I highly recommend it.

This missionary Pastor explains this in very succinct, simple and clear language. Watch it to the end with a calcualtor if you must, but the math is truly obvious ]and simple.

This guy's got the numbers and WOW, do they ever add up! !!!

2017 Time for possible Rapture??? :awesome:

I am assuming September 23 came and went without you being raptured. I certainly did not see anyone being whisked up to heaven.

Now, you had indicated that you had great confidence in this guy's prediction: "Wow, do his numbers ever add up!!!!" was your quote.

I a wondering what you think about this guy's prediction now?
And whether or not you will be duped so easily next a charlatan makes a rapture prediction for his marks?

I am sure this rapture prediction guy is selling books or something. I have no doubt that this rapture prediction industry is a money making venture for some charlatans and quacks, no?

Even, the missionary pastor mentioned "could". For people to have honest discussion and debate one must listen or read fully the content offered for discussion/debate.

Why would anyone choose to talk about anything on any topic (politics, religion, sports, etc.) on a forum designed for such purposes if one is not willing to read fully or listen to the content provided any poster?

I know little or nothing about poker, soccer, computer programing, electrical engineering, auto mechanics, plumbing, beekeeping or how to build a hydroelectric dam. I haven't immersed myself in studying any of those things. People who know nothing of Jesus Christ and His Word are the quickest to judge it, in or out of context. It makes them feel like they know better than God about what's right and wrong, giving themselves a temporary feeling of superiority, importance and self-righteousness.

If a person has not been born again of the Spirit so they can understand Biblical teaching and immersed themselves in studying God's Word, they can not comprehend it. Sure, we can sometimes recognize real crackpots, charlatans and false teachers, but sadly some can not and get taken for a ride (especially financially). They're out there...the Bible says so. Which brings us back to square one which is why a lot of people get snookered because they haven't thoroughly studied God's Word with understanding.

We live in a time where we expect quick answers, solutions and wisdom from text messages under 40 words. The Bible is not a Tweet.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Iran Tries to Reconcile Syria and Hamas, Rebuilding Alliance

BEIRUT (AP) — Iran is working to restore a lost link in its network of alliances in the Middle East, trying to bring Hamas fully back into the fold after the Palestinian militant group had a bitter fall-out with Iranian ally Syria over that country’s civil war.
Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah are quietly trying to mediate a reconciliation between Syria and Hamas. If they succeed, it would shore up a weak spot in the alliance at a time when Iran has strengthened ties with Syria and Iraq, building a bloc of support across the region to counter Israel and the United States’ Arab allies.

Hamas had long been based in Syria, receiving Damascus’ support in the militant group’s campaign against Israel. Hamas’ powerful leadership-in-exile remained in Syria even after the group took power in the Gaza Strip in 2007. Together with Iran and the Shiite guerrilla group Hezbollah, they touted themselves as the “Axis of Resistance” to oppose Israel.

But when Syria tipped into civil war, Hamas broke with President Bashar Assad and sided with the rebels fighting to oust him. The rebels are largely Sunni Muslims, like Hamas, and scenes of Sunni civilian deaths raised an outcry across the region against Assad, who belongs to the minority Alawite sect.

Iran, meanwhile, has been one of Assad’s strongest backers since the crisis in Syria began in 2011, pumping billions of dollars into the economy and sending advisers as well as Iranian-backed fighters to help him stay in power. Hezbollah sent thousands of fighters, helping tip the war in Assad’s favor against the rebels and now helping in the fight against the Islamic State group.

The reconciliation attempt comes after Hamas elected a new leadership and as its main backers, Qatar and Turkey — both strong supporters of the rebels in Syria — have sought to improve relations with Iran.

Hamas and Iran did not completely cut off their alliance after the fall-out with Assad. But ties cooled considerably. Tehran’s funding continued, particularly for Hamas’ armed wing, but at a reduced level, while political connections dwindled.

Since Yehiyeh Sinwar took over Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip in February, the militant group has been rebuilding those relations. In August, the most senior Hamas delegation in years visited Tehran and took part in President Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration. During their visit, the delegation met with the parliament speaker and senior aides to Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.

This year, Hamas officials have held three meetings with Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah and relations have returned to normal, according to a Palestinian official in Beirut.

Iran has responded by increasing funding. Sinwar told reporters last month that Iran is now “the largest backer financially and militarily” of Hamas’ armed wing. He said that with Iran’s help, Hamas is “accumulating” its military powers in preparation for a battle meant for “the liberation of Palestine.”

Now Iran wants to end the rift between its two allies, Assad and Hamas.

A Lebanese politician with close links to the Syrian government confirmed that Iranian-Hezbollah mediation is ongoing, adding that it is still in the “very early stages.”

A Palestinian official who closely follows Hamas’ relations in the region also confirmed the mediation effort and said there were “positive signals” from Syria.

Both the politician and the official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the secret mediation.

But the mediation faces a tough task given how bitter the split was.

At first when Syria’s conflict began, Hamas’ leadership in exile remained largely silent. But tensions grew with the increased bloodshed, and finally in January 2012, Hamas’ leader in exile Khaled Mashaal left Syria to Qatar, one of Assad’s main opponents.

The following September, he gave a speech in Turkey proclaiming, “We welcome the revolution of the Syrian people who are seeking freedom and independence” and that “the pure blood of these great people is being shed” because they seek democracy.

Within hours, Syrian authorities sealed up all Hamas offices in the country and expelled its members to Lebanon. They have not been allowed back since.

This month, Mahmoud Zahar, a senior Hamas figure in Gaza, told Al-Mayadeen TV that relations must be repaired with Syria and other countries that “are hostile to us without a reason.” Pressed about possible reconciliation with Syria, Zahar said, “There are steps and they should continue.”

Syrian officials told mediators they are open to reconciliation but will not allow Hamas to open an office in Damascus, prominent Palestinian journalist Abdul-Bari Atwan wrote in his online newspaper Rai al-Youm.

Khaled Abdul-Majid, a Palestinian official based in Syria who has close relations with the government, said that in the Syrians’ eyes, statements by Hamas toward improving ties “are not enough.”

“What happened was big. It was betrayal as Syrian authorities say,” Abdul-Majid said. “These (mediation) efforts have not reached serious steps.”

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck Japan 175 miles from the Fukushima nuclear plant...

Less than 24 hours after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake pummeled Mexico City, another tremor has struck off the east coast of Japan.

The 6.1-magnitude quake struck roughly 175 miles east of the shuttered Fukushima nuclear plant — at roughly 2:30 a.m. local time, according to the US Geological Survey.

Like Mexico, Japan is located in what is considered an active earthquake region.

New Zealand Defense Force Smoke, ash and volcanic rocks billow from the crater of an erupting volcano on Vanuatu's Ambae Island, Sept. 26, 2017.

A flotilla of boats was headed to the Pacific island of Ambae, Vanuatu, on Sunday as efforts got underway to evacuate all 11,000 residents because of an erupting volcano.

Globs of lava were seen flying as far as 300 feet every few seconds, vulcanologist Brad Scott told Radio New Zealand.

The eruption has polluted water sources on the island, leaving thousands in need of safe drinking water, Red Cross delegate Joe Cropp told Reuters.

“Water is crucial,” he said. “It's important to get on top of it right away.”

The Vanuatu government announced it wants all 11,000 islanders evacuated by Friday.

While some islanders have flown out, thousands of others.

have gone to emergency shelters as they prepare for the total evacuation, Reuters reported.

The Manaro Voui volcano began rumbling in September, the Reuters report said.

Volcanoes on the Vanuatu islands of Ambrym and Lopevi are also active, Radio New Zealand reported.

The California Wildfires Are Apparently Burning At A Rate Of ‘More Than A Football Field Every Three Seconds’

Sonoma County.......
“We’re not out of the woods, and we’re not going to be out of the woods for a number of days to come,” Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott said at a news conference Wednesday. “We’re literally looking at explosive vegetation. These fires are burning actively during the day and at night.”

What makes these fast-moving fires particularly dangerous, Pimlott said, is that they “aren’t just in the backwoods. . . . These fires are burning in and around developed communities.”

Nearly two dozen large fires have been raging in the northern part of the state, sending thousands of residents to evacuation centers and burning roughly 170,000 acres — a collective area larger than the city of Chicago. That size is likely to grow.

Pimlott said he’s worried that “several of these fires will merge.”

“This is a serious, critical, catastrophic event,” he said.

Losses are equally grim in Mendocino County, where two fires had merged into one, and the death toll climbed from two to six in the last 24 hours.

SONOMA, Calif. — Gusting winds and dry air forecast for Thursday could drive the next wave of devastating wildfires that are already well on their way to becoming the deadliest and most destructive in California history.
Winds up to 45 mph (72 kph) were expected to pummel areas north of San Francisco where at least 23 people have died and at least 3,500 homes and businesses have been destroyed. The conditions could erase modest gains made by firefighters.
"It's going to continue to get worse before it gets better," state fire Chief Ken Pimlott said Wednesday.

8/22/17 Jared Kushner goes to Middle East for peace talks. Kushner will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah as a Trump envoy, along with Jason Greenblatt, an assistant to Trump and special representative for international negotiations. He traveled from Cairo, where he met with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi and also held talks with officials from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The delegation also met with Qatari and Jordanian officials.

8/25 Typhoon Hato hits Macau and Hong Kong

8/26 Hurricane Harvey hits Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ), TX and parts of LA with massive flooding; contaminated water; chemical plants afire releasing toxins; stagnant water with sewage and dead animals posing grave health risks (contagious infections, Zika virus from mosquitos, dysentery, black mold, tetanus).

Dr. Peter Hotez, a dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, cited concerns about these skin infections, noting staph and flesh-eating bacteria vibrio vulnificus among the dangerous organisms found in unsanitary flood waters. “The flesh-eating bacteria is contracted from wounds infected by contaminated waters,” he told Breitbart Texas.

Texas A&M University (TAMU) tested samples of Houston area floodwaters finding E. coli bacteria 125 times higher than is considered safe for swimming. Dr. Terry Gentry, an associate professor at the TAMU’s Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, told KPRC: “This indicates the very likely presence of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and other types of organisms that could cause disease in some individuals.”

“The next tier of concerns we have are respiratory illnesses, colds, and the flu,” said Van Deusen, noting evacuees sleep in close quarters in shelters where “gastro-intestinal bugs also spread.”
