I can go get the fucking transcript of the speech if you like. Bush NEVER SAID Iraq was an imminent threat. He said, we "can't afford to wait until Iraq becomes an imminent threat!" He said, IF we waited for a smoking gun, it could be in the form of a mushroom cloud, and he was absolutely right. We couldn't afford to let this cat keep working toward a nuclear weapon, Care! No, he wasn't an immediate, imminent threat! Bush never said he was, I never argued he was, and the only time it has been articulated as such, is by Democrats who seem to want to purposely distort the point and the truth.

It can mean a variety of things depending on your perspective, can it not?

It was crystal clear, Saddam was not going to cooperate with us, with the UN, or with the War on Terror. He was going to continue to defy, continue to embrace terrorists, continue to terrorize his own people, and continue down a road to nuclear proliferation. So the danger was indeed clear, and present.

Was this something we would face the next month or year? No. The point Bush made, was we can't sit here and wait until this particular threat becomes imminent, because then it is too late to do anything about it. Saddam had the same opportunity Qaddafi had in Libya, or the nut in Korea, and he chose to remain defiant and show his power to the Arab world. If Bush/US were to be taken seriously in the War on Terror, he had to take out Saddam when this power play was made. That choice was Saddam Hussein's, not George W. Bush's. You may not comprehend it, you may be a mush-brain liberal who buys into all the Micheal Moore half-wit malarkey, but the fact is, Bush had no other alternative but to act with force.
