Vigilantes in Oakland

No...I accept that your inherent stupidity won't allow any of you to engage in meaningful discussion.

It's a simple question to ask. I thought the job of police is to solve crimes and catch criminals. Apparently I'm wrong though and they're supposed to shoot innocent people with no provocation, and then be immune from prosecution or punishment because they're apparently 'trained' for it (which they aren't, they're trained to get convictions).

And tyrannical.

:indeed:

And as is so very typical whenever rational discourse is attempted with a member of the "trinity" and they wind up on the losing end as they so often do, the childish schoolyard taunting begins again.

Nice to see 3PO couldn't be bothered to fashion a rational response...I guess it was just too much to expect.

Whatever...

Zap did make a good point earlier that one way for the people of the neighborhood to get change is through their elected officials. Oakland has no Republicans. All elected officials are Democrats and there might be a Green party member or two. I would argue a little diversity there would be a good thing but that's not likely to happen. Three mayors ago for Oakland was Jerry Brown. Besides his monumental failure with the Oakland A's Brown was a very good mayor. He did a lot for the city. The last two mayors have been these progressive activists that have been god awful and should be nowhere near the position of power they achieved.

I know the addage people get back what they vote into office. If it somewhere like Detroit it would be easier for me to day. Have roots in Oakland makes it more personal so it is hard to watch and think they get what they asked for.

As is so typical when attempting rational discourse with a member of "I love regulations," and they wind up on the losing end, as they so often do, the childish California blonde lines start getting tossed around.

Zap Attack is really doing well here. Look at him dodge Billy's rebuttal questions like a swimsuit moddel on a catwalk!

Well at least this time you didn't have to change what I wrote and could respond to my ACTUAL comments...that's something I suppose.

More "gun nuts".

Oakland Neighbors Policing Their Own Streets As They Lose Faith In Cops

Oakland’s crime problems have gotten so bad that some people aren’t even bothering to call the cops anymore; instead, they’re trying to solve and prevent crimes themselves.

KPIX 5 cameras caught up with a half dozen neighbors in East Oakland’s Arcadia Park neighborhood Monday as they walked the streets on the lookout for crime. The vigilance has never seemed more necessary than now; 25 homes in the neighborhood have been burglarized over the last two months alone.

In a neighborhood that has started to feel like the wild west, people have even started posting “wanted” signs.

You have to walk around in your house with a gun to feel safe here,” said Alaska Tarvins of the Arcadia Park Board of Directors.

Over the weekend, one home was burglarized twice in a 24 hour period, once while a resident’s nephew was inside.

“He was on with 911 when those men tried to kick into his room. That was very frightening,” said the woman, identified only as Inca.

Now, Arcadia park neighbors are taking the detective work into their own hands.

KPIX 5 found a woman who identified herself as L.E. patrolling her neighborhood by car. She said she recently chased down a couple of robbers herself.

“There was an armed robbery in progress and the owner yelled ‘help me’ and I ended up going after them,” L.E. recalled.

The people who live in the area are nothing if not gutsy, but they need help. A plan to gate their community has been stalled. With the police force stretched painfully thin, they may be forced to follow other Oakland neighborhoods and hire private guards.

“We don’t have a choice. Either die or we hire some security ourselves, because we can’t depend on the police department,” said Tarvins.

Try moving to a better neighborhood Wacko.....oh wait....I forgot......your a USC grad.....maybe you better buy a handgun.....it's cheaper. :)

Yeah, that doesn't work when the money isn't there. And here (Detroit) you can't say tax people more. They leave (well, left).

In this case the reason the money is not there is mismanagement. It should be there. Taxes are not low. They are currently paying a large amounts in pensions to ex-cops and firefighters that take up a good size portion of the budget. Based on its location and weather people aren't leaving Oakland so it's not like Detroit in that sense. But it is being completely misrun.

Hey Zap, if I get hammered drunk at work and cause an accident that kills 3 people, I should be cleared from any legal action right? I mean, I was just doing my job that I'm highly trained to do.

:rofl2:

Calif. mayor puts lock-picking class in newsletter

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The mayor of a California city struggling with a spike in burglaries and other crimes is apologizing for promoting a class about how to pick locks in her newsletter.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said Wednesday she understood the reaction of people who were upset about a listing for the lock-picking class. She said she will do a better job reviewing listings in the future.

The Oakland Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/WsyCqq) that the class — offered through the website, workshopweekend.net — was geared toward people who misplace their keys. But it didn't go over well with some residents given the city's crime woes, including a more-than 40 percent jump in burglaries last year.

Jean Quan, the tasteless joke that passes for Mayor of Oakland.

With idiots like her, no wonder people are stepping up to protect their property.

Getting drunk and causing accidents that kill is the job you're highly trained to do?

When the police stop responding, in order to maintain civility, everybody turns into Libertarians. These people are taking their security into their own hands and preparing to hire freelance security.
