What is hell?

I don't quite understand what reincarnation would be.
Something that comes after me
that's made of different atoms in a different configuration
isn't me all over again. It's something else.

One would have to believe in some sort of soul or spirit that exists
in some mysterious realm apart from physical matter.
I have never seen anything approaching a reason to believe that.

I can't imagine anything more horrible than having to experience the travails of life endless times,
or even twice, if we're being honest,
but that would definitely be hell.

Reincarnation assumes the existence of a mystical, invisible non-corporeal, non-physical essence, a somethingness of you.

Eternal separation from God
I think all of them are conjecture and unfounded.

But I think certain things can be said about it.

Divine punishment for evildoers is found in pre-Christian European and ancient Indian sources, suggesting to me that late Bronze Age Indians and Europeans had some vaguely similar religious concepts about immortal souls and divine justice - probably originating from their common ancestry in the Indo-European tribes originally living around the Black Sea.

I think popular cultural imaginations of hell in the west come from Dante Allegheri's epic poem from the Middle Ages.

I believe Jesus was strictly talking in metaphor, because you can't literally have an "outer darkness" and an "unquenchable fire" at the same time. Fire precludes darkness.

I am fascinated at how thick you seem to be. You seem to not understand that in your scenario God is a mob boss. GOD set up the system of punishment and reward. It just so happens, according to some versions of Christianity, that means eternal torment for a sin committed as a flawed imperfect creature who only has a short human lifespan in which to act. God hides himself effectively (so effectively that most other humans do NOT believe about God in the same way YOU DO, but you don't care...you just KNOW you worship the right version).

And, according to some BURN ME ALIVE FOR ETERNITY. ETERNAL TORMENT AND PAIN because I wore mixed fibers or failed to believe as YOU do.

Nope. If God is worthy of worship he doesn't appear like a Mob Boss shaking down innocent store owners. That's your faith, not mine. Never was even when I had faith.

I found it repulsive in the extreme. And the fact that no one can clarify if God is a mob boss or not and many like yourself NEED him to be a mob boss is all the reason I need to know it is ALL made up.

All of it.
No in your scenario he's a mob boss. Its amazing to me that you reject God and you get exactly what you've asked for.... separation from God and you're STILL pissing and moaning.

"Fire precludes darkness." Does it really? I don't necessarily agree. There are plenty of people with perfectly functioning eyes but are as blind as a bat. It's like the old saying about a lamp post to a drunk. It will hold him up but he won't see any more clearly

LOL.

And now you are at your limit of exegesis. You can't defend your concept of God because you haven't even thought it through. You just belieeeeeeeeeeeeve and that's cool. God will protect you from.......God's punishment if you don't believe.

No, hell is anyone and everyone who supports or caters to the dummycrat party. Anti American leftists are
destined to arrive in HELL.

Hell is having to share a nation with mouthbreathers like you who think that electing a 34-time convicted felon, rapist, 6-times bankrupted goon would result in lower egg prices.

really don't care

Yes, yes we know you don't care. You are being forced by outside forces to take part on these conversations and I'm really sorry about that. I hope one day you are able to disengage from conversations you don't care about.

Until that time I'm sure we'll all have to hear your usual toddler-rants about how you don't care about this or that thing. Honestly it IS like you are toddler who wanders through adult conversations trying to get attention.

And stupidity is your religion
While he's stupid and illiterate, stupidity is not a religion.
Hugo has indicated he's a believer in the Church of Hate, the Church of Global Warming, the Church of Green, and the Church of No God. He's very religious.

He also said he's a moron, because he's religious.

Like I said. The poor guy is illiterate and stupid.

Hell is a wonderful invention of the early Christians leveraging the Greek concepts of an afterlife complete with punishment/rewards. It didn't really exist in Judeo-Christianity before, and arguably the terms "Gehenna" and other descriptions of the "outer darkness" are a reference to the grave.

Hell is a wonderful invention in that it solves the need to provide any reason to actively believe in God and replaces it with the threat of eternal torment if you fail to believe in the proper way.

This really makes it much easier on God since He is under no requirement to provide any proof of his existence, but if you get it wrong He gets to punish you forever and ever and ever. And it's 1000X easier on the Believers because all they need to do is threaten people with this rather than living according to their own morality or attempting to bring someone into the faith willingly.

Atheists will learn the lesson. Yes they will.
Not knowing God does not mean you will be punished for it.
