Young adults increasingly more Democratic

Young adults have typically identified with the Democratic Party, but those ties have become stronger since 2006.

The Gallup Poll finds that 54% of 18-to-29-year-olds on average since 2006 have aligned themselves with Democrats compared with 36% who identify with the Republican Party.

From 1993-2003, the gap among young adults wasn’t as wide. Gallup’s analysis of its polls taken over the years finds that 47% of 18-to-29-year-olds, on average, identified with Democrats compared with 42% for Republicans.

President Obama dominated among young voters in the 2012 election, winning 60% of 18-to-29-year-olds compared with 37% for Mitt Romney, according to exit polls. Obama did even better in 2008, capturing 66% of voters under 30.

Gallup says the trend among young adults occurs as more senior citizens become Republican. One major reason for the shift in party preference: The United States is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. At the same time, young adults who are non-Hispanic whites are more likely to identify themselves as Democrats by an average of 3 percentage points.

wonder if that has changed since Obama tasked them with paying for everyone's healthcare......

a major reason for THAT change is that the young adults have a tendency to mature.....then they become Republicans.....

Is it surprising or new that more young people are Democrats than Republicans? We all know that old saying about if your not liberal when young you have no heart and conservative when older no brain or whatever it is. Republicans worship Ronald Reagan and he was a Democrat in his youth.

I'm not saying these young people won't stay Democrats but I don't see a big surprise in saying young people lean Democratic.

I was surprised, I thought less young leaned democrat now than before and more were leaning libertarian.

One more point it says Older americans meaning babyboomers are leaning more right than before, that is absolutely true but that is misleading, leaning republican does not mean voting for teapartiers.
Babyboomers are not far right.

Yeah, they're far out.

So in 2008 The Obama won 66%, and in 2012 won 60%. Isn't this a trend in the opposite direction as the thread title indicates?

Looks like the Democrat's bribery scam of a "FREE LUNCH" works best with the youth as compared with the Republican's bribery of a "JOB IN THE MILITARY" does, huh?

Read the full poll results. Folks are swing hard back to the right youger than in the past as the nature of government has its usual effect on one's wallet gets exposed. Dem leadership has poisened its well.

If I were young again I would still have the same brain, a conservative one which is the best in the end. Young people voting democrat? Just follow the free money!

Which is exactly why we see voter suppression on college campuses in many Red states now.

Young adults always start out as Libtards; then they grow up, get jobs and start families and pay taxes. That's when they become Conservative.

The good news for us is that these young dupes who have been brain washed by our educational establishment to be low information clueless twits do not tend to vote.
