Passing a background check so that criminals, those who have been charged with beating up their wives, girlfriends, stalkers, violent felons, etc, don't get guns is not a restriction of anyone's rights. Your rights are not absolute. Conflating the very nebulous term "gun control" with common sense procedures like background checks is one way you guys confuse the issue. But it doesn't work with everyone.

No that's not absolute. I could say that since 10% of the country are pedophiles their "rights" must be protected. Only certain rights. They have no right to have sex with children, and criminals have no right to be armed. It's simple. Kinda like Dick and Jane stuff.

the background check is USELESS when those that ignore it will get a gun anyway, so it IS an infringement on the rights of others.

there is nothing sensical about enforcing a law that criminals will ignore and will only make things more difficult for peaceful people.

Horseshit. Like any law, it won't stop all criminals, but it will stop some, and help catch others. I could as easily say, hey only criminals murder so why have laws against it?!

This is poor logic.

Ignoring laws is what criminals do. It's what makes what they do crimes, and what makes them criminals.

Using your logic, there really shouldn't be any laws - because criminals ignore them anyway.

Wow, talk about losing it. I could report you for this and probably get a ban, but I won't. I suggest you don't imply that I am pedophile again though. Just because you lost an argument there is no need to get so low...and further, you just committed one of the only two bannable offenses here.

you want to claim we can't have background checks because criminals won't abide by them. Well golly gee, criminals don't abide by laws, including murder and rape laws, so the same logic applies and you know it. That's why you sunk to a pedophile accusation.

I don't think the 90% poll was wrong desh... it was taken at a different time, closer to the tragedy at Sandy Hook. It combined with the one I posted that was a few months later highlights the knee jerk reaction many have after a tragedy. It shows their animosity is driven by emotion, not reason. Which is why the fear mongers tried to pass legislation so quickly while walking on the graves of the victims.

yes, it is your failure. it's all in your viewpoint. your mental mindset NEEDS to believe that laws against murder will prevent murder when, in fact, reality is much different. The law doesn't prevent murders, it provides a punishment for those that commit murder.
