Greed is what separates a successful economy from a failed economy. It's time to make a thread about how many VERY old sources say "share the wealth" to succeed.

Okay, Walmart hires at over $10 per hour, the gas station at over $9... Where are these people finding minimum wage jobs? Are they counting people like busers at the restaurant who are tipped out? They make more than their minimum base, even the IRS requires they report a certain amount in tips...

I seriously want to know, where are these minimum wage jobs? I don't know one place that hires at that wage. Not even McDonald's hires the kids from the high school for minimum.

So you are saying, assuming all work to max potential, though that 'does' vary between individuals, ignoring that, that all should be paid the same, some sort of 'living wage; version of minimum wage?

funny how there's no assumption that those without letters of recommendation out of high school are presumed to be great candidates for a Walmart or Target, (not happening at Target), entry Walmart is villified for not wanting to hire problem children from high school, Target is glrified, why? Target makes nice in many ways, though Walmart does the same in large. No matter. Walmart is gross, Target is primo.

Walmart pays better, has better benefits. Promotes more minorities and is more committed to neighborhoods. Truth is, low information voters once again rule.

Don't get me wrong. Target is an awesome company, problem is they know that Walmart is too.

It needs to be raised so that someone working 40 hours can at least survive on it.
 
my son works for Verizon at minimum wage.....plus commissions......

my daughter, (student) works for less than minimum wage......plus tips.....at Applebees......

I guess since I'm self employed I don't get a wage at all.....

that leaves my wife, part time bookkeeper for our church, as the only one in our family who earns more than minimum wage.......
 
man if you don't cull a profit that is in excess of minimum wage how does your family live on two minimums anda part time one?


have you considered your not cut out to be your own boss?

well I don't recall missing any bills....I even pay my income taxes, though I have to report what I earn on a different line than the one which asks for "Wages, salaries, tips, etc. Attach Form(s) W-2".......I use "Business income or (loss). Attach Schedule C or C-EZ"......and then there's "Rental real estate, royalties, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, etc. Attach Schedule E"......

oh, and I forgot to mention.....my son doesn't live with us....he has his own home which he bought......(he has two roommates)....despite receiving minimum wage (plus commissions).......
 
yeah they are the luckier ones in the bunch.

they may actually be able to live on minimum because they make more money than the other minimum wage people get huh?

I love them both.....I expect 95% of the other minimum wage earners also have parents that love them very much.....

a) If minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would now be about $10.74 an hour. Still above that starting WalMart wage
b) WalMart has a lot of part-time workers; so might want to look at their annual salary compared to the current low minimum wage annualized.
c) WalMart's "average" wage that it reports - $11.75 - does NOT include part-time workers and probably includes supervisory workers who are paid by the hour (and probably paid more). and they don't say how they calculate the average wage http://wardfourthrives.blogspot.com/p/wal-mart-facts.html

As far as half the workers getting minimum wage being younger workers - what makes people think teenagers and people in their early 20s don't ALSO need the minimum wage increased? They may be saving for an apartment, paying for college, buying their first car, helping their parents out.

And of course the other half are older workers, skewing older as the weak economy continues. They need it raised.
