You can't live on $7.25 an hour anywhere in America?

oh really you never used any roads or public buildings huh?

No municipal water or trash?

No police to protect you or fire?

I didn't know you didn't live in the USA

If only the hard workers in the depression could read what you just typed. And/or Jesus.

Greed is what separates a successful economy from a failed economy. It's time to make a thread about how many VERY old sources say "share the wealth" to succeed.

And yet there are liberals amassing all sorts of wealth. I don't see Nazi Pelousy or Barbara Boxer spreading their own wealth. You left wingers only want to spread somebody else's wealth. With your own? Not so much

a) If minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would now be about $10.74 an hour. Still above that starting WalMart wage
b) WalMart has a lot of part-time workers; so might want to look at their annual salary compared to the current low minimum wage annualized.
c) WalMart's "average" wage that it reports - $11.75 - does NOT include part-time workers and probably includes supervisory workers who are paid by the hour (and probably paid more). and they don't say how they calculate the average wage http://wardfourthrives.blogspot.com/p/wal-mart-facts.html

As far as half the workers getting minimum wage being younger workers - what makes people think teenagers and people in their early 20s don't ALSO need the minimum wage increased? They may be saving for an apartment, paying for college, buying their first car, helping their parents out.

And of course the other half are older workers, skewing older as the weak economy continues. They need it raised.
So your answer is, nobody does work at that wage so we need to raise the wage? Raise it to $9 and the gas station won't change a thing, they already hire at a larger wage. Nothing changes.

The Federal minimum isn't a measure of how people are paid, you state so even here. The article is about $7.25 an hour, if nobody actually makes that, including busers at restaurants, who the heck are we helping by raising it? Basically, if it won't change anything, what is the point?

I'm advocating raising it to match at least what it would have been if it kept pace with inflation - $10.74 - so that will help those gas station attendants you talk about.

And there are 1.7 million people who DO get minimum wage even if your gas station attendant doesn't.

Don't know how many are paid between 7.25 and 10.74

You must be so self satisfied at this pronouncement to arbitrarily raise wages to $10.75 an hour. I mean, they still stay in poverty, but hey, you get to proclaim that you care and feel really good about yourself.

If you are going to arbitrarily raise it, then raise it to something meaningful like $25/hour. At least take them out of poverty. Solve the problem for a change.
