Giving them a level playing field is hardly coddling. Children understand that when others have been oppressed and treated unfairly that they should be protected. Maybe you need to think like a child.

Well, exactly. It's about all those whites who got special preference in hiring, in college acceptances, etc. when perfectly qualified minorities got shut out due to their race.

So affirmative action programs and outreach programs are attempting to provide some balance against white privilege.

Why is it fair that all those minorities got shut out? Why is it fair that women get shut out? All because white males are "preferred" regardless of actual skill level or talent.

It's about misinformation on your part. "Affirmative Action" was never about quotas or set asides. It was about taking affirmative action to ensure government contractors were not engaging in discrimination. The courts have limited college diversity programs by subjecting them to strict scrutiny when they use race.

To claim that these attempts to combat discrimination justify the disgusting crap posted daily on these boards is just stupid. Besides that, conservatives here and elsewhere are supporting racial profiling and defending stop and frisk programs. Racism won't go away if we just pretend not to see it or race, like Colbert.
