How did Trump get to the top of the pack?

Several reasons, of course. Not any one thing.

1. Marketing: Elections are ALL about marketing, whether on TV, Radio or personal appearances. Trump has dominated the slogan battle. Every time he says "Make America Great Again" his over-capacity crowds chant USA USA USA USA. That's powerful.

2. Lack of apology: Trump has said many things that have shocked the Establishment in both parties. He has doubled down, dug in his heels and told the critics to fuck off. He would have been GONE the first time he copped out and apologized.

3. He's believable: Look at his rallies. They are pure performances of stream of consciousness. Livingston Taylor once said that a performance is a conversation between the performer and the audience. During a Trump rally, it's as if he's speaking to everyone personally. No teleprompters, no canned speeches. Nothing slick and rehearsed. Just words from the heart. They resonate.

4. He has either picked the very and most important issues of the campaign or has created them: Illegal immigration, China Trade Policy, protecting the Second Amendment, caring for our wounded veterans, expanding the economy. He leads in ALL those categories, and in all polls he has the highest numbers of all the candidates in the category of leadership.

5. He has not run away from the media. He has gone on every TV and radio show possible, allowed himself to be poked fun at and ridiculed. He has become such a media darling that they have to have him because of the ratings. For that reason, the media has become Trump's bitch. Oh, and during his rallies he continues to refer to the media as dishonest. That resonates. He is now immune from the left wing media, AND the Conservative establishment media.

6. He is the most powerful figure in this race. His eight billion dollar company and his association with world leaders and political donors has given him more power than any candidate in the history of America.

7. He has not made this race about ideology. This is driving the THE VIEW libs and the Rush Limbaughs batshit crazy. He has not made this about liberal versus conservative. Republicans ALWAYS lose that battle, mostly because they don't have the balls to follow up and because the media is in control. Trump has made this race about competency, and he has attacked Republicans as well as Democrats. And he was right. Both parties have sold us down the river.

8. He claims to be self funding the race. And he has spent the least amount of money.

Speaking of the other Republicans in the race, a couple of them have become better candidates because of Trump. Had he not been in the race, right now Jeb Bush would be ahead in the polls. It would have cost him $100 million but he would have done it. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have grown ENORMOUS sets of balls in this street fight. Trump has made them more feisty and more combative.

May I add all of the FREE advertising he's getting, what with the haters talking about him; every single fucking day on their TV and Radio shows.

#3 is a lie. Trump is not believable.

9. Really stupid people, called "Trumptards." Notice that, aside from Texass, Trump is carrying the gutter states, such as Alabubba, Tennessee, Georgia, and a close win in Virginia.

Piers Morgan was interviewed this morning saying he knew Trump pretty well, and he was not only sane but intelligent, and was making all these nutty noises only to get votes. That is all very well, but after this, who is ever going to believe him, whatever he says, unless it be 'I know I am Napoleon/God, or whatever'?

i wouldn't underestimate Trump. Trump has done the following to earn his front runner status. He has tapped into the mood of a large segment of the electorate. He has used the threat of a third party candidacy to roll up the GOP establishment. He has manipulated the large and fractured field of GOP contenders to his advantage.

The amazing thing is that Trump has done this with essentially only 35% of GOP voters. That should also be a cause for alarm in his campaign.

The electoral politics are becoming very interesting. Clinton will start of the general election campaigning with a substantial lead in electoral votes and Trump will be playing catchup. In terms of popular vote things are real interesting. Trump has alienated virtually all ethnic minorities, around 30 % of the population. Clinton will probably win 90% of those votes. Hillary does poorly with white males, around 35% of the population, so Trump will win around 70% of those votes making those two demographic a statistical wash.

So then it would appear that it will probably be the women of this nation who will determine who the next President will be. Given one of the candidates is a woman, I'd say Clinton has a size able advantage though by no means insurmountable.

if Trump were to win the general he'd have the same problem any populist has. He can't keep the promises he has made.

hes playing one for profit

republicans are just easy to con

racists are not the smartest of people

the donnald wont win

history has proven that,

most right wing voters are too stupid to follow facts

Apparently you have some sort of axe to grind and it clouds your thinking, but it can't be a 'lie' that Trump is believable because 'believable' isn't a fact but a matter of opinion. You can only know that people were fools for believing Trump after he's been in office for at least 15 minutes lol.

Personally, I want to believe him more than I do. But he's probably going to be offered up as the choice on the republican side so I'll vote for him.

I'm also waiting for Trump to start moderating some of his more hardcore positions the closer he gets to the general.

Trump has won the Republican nomination by betting against the Republican establishment's "no compromise no deals" agenda of the last 8 years.

While he is only getting 35% of the vote, it appears its enough to get him the Republican nomination and maybe the presidency.

Its entertaining to see Mr. Lets Make a Deal emerge as the Republicans likely nominee.

I agree, the battle will be over women votes. I don't know how that will play out, but it will be interesting to see. I can see why women might be offended by both candidates.

Trumptards know what I know, which is that the Donald supports abortion, higher taxes and spending, universal government healthcare, and generally speaking, nothing that they would claim to support. They admit he's not believable every time they explain how they are voting for him because he is an outsider who is fighting against the system in DC.
