How did Trump get to the top of the pack?

Speaking of the other Republicans in the race, a couple of them have become better candidates because of Trump. Had he not been in the race, right now Jeb Bush would be ahead in the polls. It would have cost him $100 million but he would have done it. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have grown ENORMOUS sets of balls in this street fight. Trump has made them more feisty and more combative.

You and I have different definitions of "better." It's embarrassing to hear Cruz & Rubio get dragged down to Trump's level, and the GOP campaign turn into a juvenile name-calling exercise.

Trump is bringing the whole campaign down to a very negative, very personal & incredibly childish level. It's not worthy of America, or even close to it. This will be the ugliest campaign year in modern history - and that will be Trump's legacy more than anything.

That it is! :)

I have to admit. I find the idea of an autocratic and egotistical corporate magnate like Trump pretty unpalatable. Particularly given some of the disgusting comments he's made and the fact that he has purposefully decided to attract a "least common denominator" as his constituency. I find that repugnant....but not nearly as scary as the idea of an ideological right wing fanatic who would with out doubt prove to be far more incompetent than W (which is saying a lot) like Ted Cruz.

In some respects Trump may be saving the GOP from something far worse. That being a Cruz nomination.

Interesting thing about Trump. Had he not entered the race and had he not infected some of the other candidates with much bigger balls, it's likely that Jeb Bush would be the front runner right now. The GOP establishment and their willing accomplices in the left wing media would have ostracized Senator Cruz and he wouldn't have anywhere near the numbers he has now. So you could say that Cruz is as high on the food chain right now because of Trump. And don't think that his being Trump's running mate is out of the question or off the table.

Cruz is a decent man who has the distinction of actually making good on the promises he made to the people in Texas who elected him. He is hardly a right wing fanatic, but he certainly is the GOP establishment's worse nightmare.

Donald Trump will run Congress like he runs his company. Things will get done. The economy will improve. Our security will improve. Trump comes to this job with the best leadership credentials we've seen since Reagan.

Senator Cruz on the other hand would blow up the entire house of cards. He would totally destroy the good ole boy network in Washington and get a lot of RINOS off their fat asses or they would be out of a job. He would just yank the rug out of the Beltway cartel.

Either scenario is healthy for America, and CERTAINLY a better alternative to what we would have with a Hillary regime.

I'm not so sure about that last part. Most of those contenders were egomaniacs who never should have run and were too stubborn to get out when their poll numbers started tanking.

The latest CNN poll has him at 49 percent.

Don't bet the farm on that. It's possible that Trump will redraw the Electoral College map. He's the only candidate who could do that. Unless New York State makes good on its threat to let illegal aliens vote, Trump will win that state. He could take Massatoosetts, Michigan and Wisconsin. We know he's going to win Florida and Ohio.

That's a FUCKING LIE. He does very well with Hispanics, (at least in several states he has won) and it appears that 25 percent of blacks support him.

Without blacks, Hillary might as well leave the race. She has nothing else.

Hillary's personality is going to be a real advantage for Trump. After he eviscerates her at the first and only debate they have, the Nurse Ratched bitch that throws ashtrays at people will come out. It is premature to imagine her carrying any group at all.

That would be a problem for ANY candidate but Trump. The rest of them would be afraid to go there. Trump isn't afraid of anything. He can DESTROY Hillary's alleged advantage with women just by casually bringing up her sexual predator/rapist of a husband and how she enabled that bastard to get away with so much. He'll do it. He's got nothing to lose.

To each his own on who they support and I know you are all in on the Trump kool aid. Fair enough. But he doesn't have 25% of the black vote.

My (black) buddy posted this on Facebook today. Black people do not like Trump.

""A few years ago my professor at UC Berkeley told us that there would something called the Obama effect that would flare up at some point and show where America truly is. And the simple fact of a Black man being president has awaken and brought to the surface how bad racism is in America. Donald Trump is using Hitler tactics to rally crowds but he really using the racist thoughts of folks to push his campaign. This is the Obama effect. Deep down inside many want revenge for a Black man being elected president and it comes out by supporting Trump. For the record Hitler won with these tactics, don't underestimate the hate!- ""

I would more readily bet on Cruz losing the General against HRC than I would Trump losing.

However, I relish an election where the Republican winning will do more damage to the Conservative Party than him losing.

Cruz's disadvantage is an inability to redraw the Electoral College map. It's entirely possible that New York State and maybe even Massatoosetts could be in play this fall.

Cruz's other problem would be the lying left wing media. Trump on the other hand has made the media his BITCH. He snaps his fingers and they come running. He says "shit" and they ask him where and how high.

Cruz could probably defeat Hillary just because he has a lot more balls than he did coming into this, (which he can thank Trump for.) But Trump will take Hillary apart like Reagan took Jimmy Carter apart.

Tavis Smiley did write an op-ed in the USA Today saying it's possible the Donald could skim a few black votes based on his personality and commented that black friends of Donald haven't spoken out against him. So I would never put anything past him but 25% is still off the charts crazy.

It doesnt take much of a shift in black % to hurt the dems but it's the mushy middle shift to the right that will make the difference.
Can't wait to see the counter ad addressing hrc's equal pay for women shows up. Can't believe Sanders has not assailed her over that.

I don't think so. I thing Jeb threw that money away. Bush fatigue is real and it's extensive. I think Jeb would have flopped regardless of Trump being in the race or not.

The main problem that the GOP establishment candidates have had is one of messaging. People are angry about the economic decline of the working and middle class and here comes Rubio, Jeb and Kasich with their tired old beaten up and worn out message that they're going to make the world a better place by cutting taxes for the wealthy, balancing the budget (which they never do) and spending money like drunken sailors on the military. The folks in the assisted living communities might eat that shit up but everyone else is rolling their eyes. It's a 30+ year old message and people are simply tired of it.

i wouldn't underestimate Trump. Trump has done the following to earn his front runner status. He has tapped into the mood of a large segment of the electorate. He has used the threat of a third party candidacy to roll up the GOP establishment. He has manipulated the large and fractured field of GOP contenders to his advantage.

The amazing thing is that Trump has done this with essentially only 35% of GOP voters. That should also be a cause for alarm in his campaign.

The electoral politics are becoming very interesting. Clinton will start of the general election campaigning with a substantial lead in electoral votes and Trump will be playing catchup. In terms of popular vote things are real interesting. Trump has alienated virtually all ethnic minorities, around 30 % of the population. Clinton will probably win 90% of those votes. Hillary does poorly with white males, around 35% of the population, so Trump will win around 70% of those votes making those two demographic a statistical wash.

So then it would appear that it will probably be the women of this nation who will determine who the next President will be. Given one of the candidates is a woman, I'd say Clinton has a size able advantage though by no means insurmountable.

Of course; because didn't Hillary say that there's a special place in Hell for women who don't support women.

But then she vilified Bill's accusers and verbally demonized a juvenile rape victim, who were all females.

fwiw, Madeline Albright said that

Kinda cool, huh? He gets the big numbers and spends the least amount of money for them.
I'm just thinking how cool it would be for the federal budget to be handled in such a fashion. Maybe we get a bigger bang for less bucks.

I hope he does win; because it will give liberals something more to talk about, other then how great they think they are.

Yes he is. Right now, he's more believable than any other candidate.

You're considering Massatoosetts a gutter state? The really stupid people are the supporters of Hillary. And the FUCKING IDIOT MORONS WHO DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO WORK A JOB FOR A LIVING are supporting Sanders.

If nothing else, when THE DONALD wins in a landslide, I'm hoping those idiots get a nice letter from Uncle Sam in lieu of their welfare check. One that says GET OFF YOUR FAT FUCKING LAZY ASS AND GET A JOB, DICKHEAD.

To be fair, they should be given 30 to 60 days or to show reason why.

He will win the nomination while tearing apart the GOP in the process.
He will then lose the general in a landslide to Clinton, as planned.
You have been duped by a reality TV star playing politics for fun.

AH YES, the last bastion of the liberal hand book of guidelines:
"When you're losing your ass, ALWAYS try to equate your opponent with things like Communism, Nazism, Fascism, or anything similar and repeat it as many times as it takes for this fallacy to take hold".
