Do you believe you have a right to not catch a virus?

If the left is particularly concerned about social distancing and isolation for the purpose of maintaining as little spread of the virus as possible, why is it that the same people also advocate keeping the border open during all of this?

If anything, maintaining open immigration and sanctuary policies completely undermines any potential gains from isolation due to the introduction of people that aren't typically screened for the virus and could easily be carriers.

There is surely a massive amount of cognitive dissonance being engaged by the left on this issue.

That's a stretch.

I'd say there is more dissonance in those who demand we re-open more quickly, but then oppose things like masks, distancing and more testing, which can HELP us re-open more quickly.

I can agree that pushing for reopening without using protective measures is stupid, but how is it a stretch to think that letting unscreened people into your country will undermine efforts to stop the spread? That should be common sense, frankly.

However, where I draw the line is when you want to piously try to impose your beliefs onto me.

But in any society, you need to surrender some of your freedoms for the safety of others. You do not have the "right" to murder people, because that right would impinge on others rights to live. Nor do you have the "right" to drink and drive, for the same reason.

This is all a balancing act, and I can certainly understand if you said it should be heavily balanced towards individual rights, but it should never be an absolute right to ignore others safety. You do not have an absolute right to spread disease, and you never have had that absolute right.

Libertarians want freedom without obligation.

News to me. What leftists say they don't care about anybody but themselves?

Freedom without obligation applies to many things. For example, many on the left demand an expansive welfare state without any job-related strings attached. They want the freedom to get income from the government without any responsibilities being applied to said money.

Others demand that people should have the freedom to enter the country without any sort of screening process involved, whether it's with regard to a criminal record or disease.

Others want abortion on demand that is additionally funded by the state without any restrictions to when it can be done.

Please name them. Never heard that argument.

"Others demand that people should have the freedom to enter the country without any sort of screening process involved, whether it's with regard to a criminal record or disease."

Again, name those who argue that.

none of those things have any bearing on whether we can open

98% of people who test positive have no or few symptoms

You have been played

You don't have the right to be a potential spreader of a deadly virus.

Says who?

Does that apply to EVERY deadly virus?

Will you FORCE people to get flu shots? Quarantine them for the rhinovirus? What about HPV? That can lead to cervical cancer which can kill. Should you be screened and sterilized?

You might want to think this through and not through the lens of the media manipulation that you have been through

Also, does it apply to bacteria?

As I said, if you take all of the precautions you advocate like wearing a mask and stay 6 feet away from me you shouldn't get the virus even if I don't wear a mask correct? Unless of course your faith in those measures isn't as great as you would let on?

I am not spreading disease if you wear a mask and you stay six feet away from me right? Aren't those the things the experts tell you will keep you from getting the virus?

Do you not have faith in wearing a mask AND staying six feet away? Hey, just to make you feel safe, lets make it 10 feet ok?

"You might want to think this through and not through the lens of the media manipulation that you have been through"

Trump tells truth. Media is fake.

All rights infringe on others' rights. It is just the way of the world. We live in a society, so have to play by some basic rules. The question is the balance.

hmmm, but you totalitarians seem to be making these rules up as you go along and aren't even considering others rights

you have no right to tell someone they can't earn a living then demand others pay for them not to work

If you want to be virus free until 2023 then I suggest you buy yourself a bubble and move into it. Don't rely on me. I don't give a fuck about you or your grandmother
